It was a brief catch up with Danny Cowley as The Imps approach their final game of the hectic Xmas and New Year schedule versus Port Vale:-

Cambridge - DC was happy with the start against Cambridge but not with the latter stages of the half. The game then became a test of character which the players responded to really well. DC quoted that 'you always want skill and will' but if you cannot have both then he will take 'will' every time.

Port Vale - The players have trained well today also had a two hour debrief of the Cambridge game and video analysis of Port Vale. DC then dropped in a new mantra that you expect people to have the will to win but he expects the players to have the will to prepare to win also. Port Vale are a wounded animal after their two home reverses v Imps and will be a more dangerous animal resultingly; the players will be fighting for the shirt. In any case Port Vale have a better away than home record.

Injuries - DC remains hopeful on Josh Vickers and Shay McCartan but explained that due to the volume of games at this time of year he is more prone to putting out the freshest and fittest team available including mental cogency in that equation. As the players are still effectively in recovery post Cambridge he will not realistically know his best 11 for sure until the day of the match.

Transfer Window - Although the work has been done this is very much on the back burner and not thought about during the seasonal games coming thick and fast. Logically once the games are out the way whilst it would be advantageous to do early business the Imps are not financially able to dictate the market so expect to be able to respond to opportunities as they develop instead.

Thanks Hully! Another mention that we haven't got much money to spend; trying to put the agents off and keep asking prices sensible, I reckon.

That said, I'm not sure you get much value in January windows so wouldn't be too eager for us to spend. Loans might be a better bet.

putting out the freshest and fittest team... but also picking andrade ahead of gordon and mensah. really?
