What 3 things do we need to do to beat Port Vale tomorrow night?

Need 150 words in order to publish!

1. A balanced team, not one with 6 or 7 changes in. This cup is one where we can progress to meet bigger teams and generate more income.

2. More confidence in defence,,OK we only conceded a penalty against the Robins, but at times we looked a little shaky. Maybe a 4 at the back rather than a 3.

3. A bit of unexpected play,;in other words, play the plan A, B and C games. Mix it up a bit. Vale will expect hoof ball, so let's do what we did v Swindon and play hoof as little as possible.

They become more so later in the season, when we all have some idea of how we and other teams set up. Early doors it's just a case of guess work and hope

1) Give Ellis Chapman a start and, more importantly, give him free rein.

2) Try Bruno Andrade with Matt Rhead up front. Always worth experimenting.

3) Rest Lee Frecklington so he'll be fully fit for Grimsby.

1) Win the 2nd Ball - Vale have very little pace up front. Tom Pope is captain and top scorer and this season been paired with Ricky Miller. Neither is small, although Miller went off injured against Colchester. They will play long balls. Likely to be paired with Kanu or Dodds who will thrive off winning knock downs from Pope the Imps need to win the 2nd balls to stop their more technical players getting the ball where they can do some damage.

2) Run at them - In the April defeat we struggled to create chances against a very solid defence. Until injured, Rowe was our best outlet who could do some damage by running at their defence. Playing an on form Anderson and Andrade should let us run at full backs who aren't the most secure defensively, also allowing us to nullify some of their attacking options in Montano and Gibbons who provide options from deeper.

3) Be up for the fight - This game will not be pretty. Neither team is renowned for their Barcelona-esque football. If Vale rotate, their CM's could be Michael Tonge and Anthony Kay. Even Bostwick will be pushed to be throwing the biggest tackles in the middle of the park if that's the case.
