But everyone remembers the 1-1 draw at Fulham as being the final nail in our coffin.
But do the kids today know that our hopes for promotion to the second division (championship) did not end there.
I can still hear in my mind, the Old Clan singing ‘Derek dougan you’re a waynekerr’. At David Hurds testimonial. He gave the Clan the ‘Vs’ fair play to him.
But what a huge part ‘the Doug’ was to play during that summer in 82 when City looked ever more likely to replace the bankrupt, were they even defunct, Wolves?
Given today’s rules I’m sure wolves would have gone and ourselves promoted.
Oh well.

David Hurd? Do you mean David Herd? He never had a testimonial, unless I am losing my memory.

Wolves were certainly not defunct; they had big debts because of that silly stand and were simply taken over by wealthy people - something that happens every month today. Why would they have gone under today's rules? Clubs have far bigger debts today than ever. Just look at what Bolton (£172 million) and Sunderland (£150 million) have achieved in recent years.

Why are clubs allowed to get so far ino debt by the PL, EFL and banks. Bolton and Sunderland have zero chance of paying that off.

Wolves nearly did go out of business that summer. It was reported that we may get their place in 2nd Division. Remember taking my radio (must have been day of court hearing) to work to see if it happened.

On another note echoing much of the opinions I’ve read on here recently...There I was back aboard the Barbi bus (Barbican) after the 1-1 draw away to Fulham.
I grabbed the coach microphone and announced to the lads.
‘I’m really glad we didn’t get promoted to the championship(or equivalent). We clearly arnt good enough for that level of football. It’ll give Colin (he walks on water) to rebuild the side to be good enough for next years championship winning season.
I fell to the floor under a flurry of fists and boots as those who realised that promotion opportunities at Lincoln are not like London buses. And that we were likely to rebuild in the positions our better players had vacated after they’d moved on to play at a higher level elsewhere.
That’ll teach me eh?
