Poll: Should we make this forum VS members only?

Tino

Vital Reserves Team
At the request of others I’ve made the Off Topic and Open Terrace forums ‘members only’ but should we do something similar to this board?

Let the debate begin.

I have voted yes, for the simple reason we have lots of people reading but not contributing. The more posters on here the better. More fun, more debate, more people getting banned... ;-)

Sorry Tino, for some reason I don't follow what you are asking!!. Presently who is and isn't allowed to post/view here?

Surely only members can contribute anyway? Or am I wrong? Or is the idea to stop trolls from LeArse etc coming on here to be WUMs?

Members can post while non VS members can enter the forum and read the threads. The question is shall we make this forum accessible to members only.

Ok, but if you want to encourage peeps to join and discuss, then surely allowing free access for a peek is good....no? If they are from, say, Vital ars*nal, it may encourage a debate there, which is good for Vital...no? I'll vote leave as is.

I can see the case for both sides of the debate but the choice is yours.

Leave as is ...then after they browse they can choose to join or not, not be forced to...thats if they feel strong enough to want to contribute...

..caveat...if from le arse forum...charge them a fee to look! :2:

I agree with Critical. I spent about a year reading content here before I posted (granted, on the front page) and probably another year before posting here for the first time on the forum. Not sure how you can attract comments if visitors don't know what's being said in the first place.

But you can close it off and continue to exist in a joyless little bubble if that's what you guys really want.

Poch out! :36:

I think the idea is that the front pages will remain accessible.

That's a fair argument SE.

If a genuine Spurs fan joins and decides they don't want to contribute that is fair enough. If a non fan reads us it can only be for negative reasons. To take the piss or glean info. It should be a closed shop to protect our integrity. Especially now as we are top 4 and title contenders, our enemies will look for ways to cause disruption.

This may sound petty and reactionary but you can't underestimate the cave man fans of other clubs.

The issue is the conversion rate. We consistently have a high number of viewers. But new sign ups are low. The quality of the threads has improved.

So what is the best course of action?

It can be argued either way.

Nick best to be open and honest and transparent IMO ...who give a fying feck what a non fan thinks....

I agree with what you are saying. But the big issue is we are not converting viewers to members. Now, perhaps, the quality management that has been instituted will increase the membership over the next few months.

There is value on being on the inside as well Greavsie. Curiosity as to what's being said in the threads when individuals who are not members can only see the titles could drive member numbers up. And, hopefully, get them to post.

We must not stifle debate and keep things open and again, transparent.IIf an individual feels strongly about a topic and is not a member, they will surely join to 'comment'. We must not 'do a trump; i.e VS first.....we don't need a wall to keep others out. Let them view and decide to join or not.

With respect that is not a good analogy. There isn't a barrier to being a member and it' free to anyone.

And no, we shouldn't stifle debate. At all. But the play the ball, not the player rule is not going away.

I voted yes, but I'm not sure I made the right choice. Perhaps the aim to attracting more regulars to the forum isn't rooted in how open the forum is. I'd say that the only real reason for closing a forum would be to stop 'flamers' and people who just want to troll... but even then, someone who has the time and energy to do those things will take a few minutes extra to make an account.

I put yes, but my answer is no.
