Watching Ed Miliband deliver his speech.

I need to get a life.

Christ, I thought Cleggs speech was stomach churning, nothing compared to this load of self serving shit he is coming out with. How he has the bare-faced cheek to claim his vote on Syria was a principled decision, and not an opportunistic grab to bloody the nose of the government, I will never know. What a twat.

Really Ed, making fun of someone for lying on a beach? How lightweight. Maybe he needs a bulldog of an advisor! Damien McBride is looking for a job.
When are Labour going to take ownership of the shit they left the country in? He is going on about living standards and wages, why the f*ck does he think the cost of living has gone up and wages haven't? Eh Ed any idea?

Christ, he is now promising to cover the country in wind & solar farms, subsidised by the UK tax payer.

Now wants to impose more red tape on companies. Also says he is going freeze gas and electricity prices until 2017. How he is going to do that in a free market I don't know.

Now saying that they are going to take back land off developers if they don't build on it in a certain period, even though that land has been bought legally and is not theirs to take away.

Looks like government is going to get much more intrusive under Ed.

I'm glad I've not had time to watch, I think I'd have died laughing.

Labour taking the higher moral ground on a war. :3:

They really did back a lame horse when they voted Ed in didn't they?

Alan Johnson they might have had half a chance, even Balls up would have been better for them. Or their mini Tony Blair in David Milliband.

But this one?

Surely unelectable?

Yam gorra laff (just being inclusive for CliveTheVillan!)

It's all going to cost us a lot of money, that is for sure.

Can't wait for "Call me Dave"s speech next week!

I guess Red Ed going to be busy employing people to print all the money this is going to need then

It looks difficult for Red Ed because the UK electorate definitely don't want anything called socialism but don't want to give up those tax credits that get paid into their bank accounts or the state pensions they get even without making any contributions.

Even people who live entirely off the taxes of hard-working people, think that a scrounger is everyone on benefits but themselves.

Dealing with that sort of double-think definitely needs a special sort of double-talk, and unfortunately compared with Beelzebub Blair, Red Ed is just hopeless.

The only way that people are ever going to see socialism as a good thing is if the Tories can ditch the wet and woolly Cameron, and replace him with the sort of hard-line Tory who will teach people the meaning of personal responsibility and the reality of the free-market.

Until then we look to be stuck with the wet and the windy.

Tax credits is a shambles full stop - the department alone and all the administration is far too costly. Its a system we didnt need to introduce.
Basically, low earners should pay little or no tax at all, dole should means tested and higher earners pay more tax. All this tax credits malarkey was just designed by the Labour party to make the public "think" they were getting something back. The set up created needless jobs in the public sector, using public money to pay it all. Do you ever sit there at think how many forms are going out? How many staff are behind it all, the cost of running the whole department? = when we could manage perfectly well enough without it.

By wasting 2 hours of your life filling in forms.

Working tax credits - low earner
Child tax credits - have kids under 16

Basically the system needs to be scrapped and instead we lower the income tax for low earners - this would save all the forms, time and money wasted on departments that just arnt necessary.

Do you think people prefer to fill in loads of forms to get tax back that they've "already paid" - or just not be charged for it in the 1st place?

The child tax credits is the worst because you still get child benefits AS WELL. So all these people with 9 kids and on the dole, are getting child benefit, housing benefit, child tax credit - along with other allowances. - Its waaaay too many government departments and wasted public money. This could be trimmed down massively with a better structure in place.

That is exactly how Milton Friedman explains it.

Too much money gets absorbed by the bureaucracy and does not reach the people it is intended for.

How do I get one of these tax credits then?

Don't you know that poor people are living the life of Riley on the back of the working man. The poor downtrodden 1% are struggling to put another tray of Ferrero Rocher on the table because some people are getting their social security payments back!

It's an unbearable situation and the 1% would be out on the streets in protest if they could find someone else to do it for them for free.

I am glad to see that at least someone has some compassion for these wealth-creators.

Inflation for luxury goods is twice that of the sort of goods and services Riley buys.

"According to the affluent living index compiled by Stonehenge Wealth Management Group, the cost of a basket of ultra-luxury goods and services consumed by Britain’s 1 percent of the 1 percent – stuff like Bugatti cars, Patek Philippe gold watches, season tickets to the opera and membership to elite sports clubs – increased 4.9 percent over the 12 months ending in April – compared to the overall U.K. inflation index of 2.4 percent in the same period of time."

Everything should be means tested. They throw money at people who don't need it and it means the money doesn't get to those who do OR that it stays in our pockets via less tax.

Less tax??? What a strange idea! Well it is for the current crop of politicians. The populous seem to accept the government stealing their hard earned money without a fuss. Not sure how we came to this sad state of affairs.

It is significant and indicative of Tory thinking that VAT was increased to 20%.

VAT is known to be a regressive tax (hits the poor disproportionally) as opposed to income tax which is progressive.

It is these sorts of choices which reveal the Tories as not the party of the striving classes but the party of the rich.
