Labour has accused Boris Johnson of "cronyism" after he appointed a university friend to a committee advising him on ethical standards.
Former lawyer Ewen Fergusson will begin a five-year stint on the Committee on Standards in Public Life next month.
He was a member of Oxford University's Bullingdon Club at the same time as the prime minister.

"Ethical standards "

Has anyone else ever had a go at Twitter? I have a look every now and then and actually commented once. Big mistake. Once you express an opinion all sorts of zealots of all persuasions chip in. Some good, some amusing, some so intense you could fry eggs on them. I’ll stick to reading and shaking my head from now on.
Unless it’s about Villa.

"Open and fair competition." The fuckers. The lying, damn, crony, fuckers.

Boris Johnson has surrounded himself with a plethora of incompetents but his choice of David Frost as the main Brexit negotiator seems to me to be particularly bad.
This little story on the BBC website caught my eye. He's having a moan because trade between both states on the island of Ireland has grown appreciably because of the "dreaded" Northern Ireland Protocol. Being parochial, I think it's a "good thing". Irish sausages (whether from Protestant or Catholic pigs) are well on a par with those available in Great Britain!

Increased cross-border trade in Ireland as a result of the Northern Ireland Protocol is "in many ways a problem", UK Brexit Minister Lord Frost has said.
In the first quarter of 2021, Northern Ireland exports to the Republic of Ireland were up by 60% to more than €1bn (£859m).
The value of trade in the other direction was up by 40% to €977m (£841m).

Johnson supposedly paid for it himself, which I find very hard to believe.

l

We all know he wouldn’t pay for a pack of chewing gum without being reimbursed by some Tory donor. Several accounts seem to suggest he’s struggling with the salary of being PM.

But what does it matter these days? There’s no recourse for any even illegal spending.

It’s completely outrageous, and if you had put a story up about this ten years ago it would be headline news and public uproar. A Labour government with no traction, and the matter of a global pandemic, it’s disaster capitalism in everything they do even if it is as small as spending taxpayer money on some wine.
