The Politics Thread

Anyone see This Week on Thursday? Ken Livingstone interviewed about Venzuala. It was a car crash up there with the awful interview Dianne Abbot endured a year or two ago.

He said it was American sanctions that have ruined the Venzuala economy, not the socialist dictator that Labour leadership were fawning over.

Andrew Neil pointed out there had been no sanctions until this week, but Ken kept talking about the sanctions (that don't exist)

And then won't accept the so called socialist leaders had amassed great wealth.

Such amazing hypocrisy. And to think Corbyn, the vile McDonnel and Abbot are of this ilk.

Defies belief that one did and that's saying something when it comes to Ken. I'd recommend anyone even if only half interested in politics to watch it. Just awful.

I wasn't sure whether this belonged here or in the Brexit thread. It's an 18 month old article which takes the view that the union has not been a good thing for Northern Ireland and that we are inexorably moving towards Irish unity.
As I mentioned in the Brexit thread, without regular remittances from Westminster, it would be in a really sorry state.

In economics, geography is as important as history. Proximity demands attention. Much as we Southerners might like to ignore what is happening in Northern Ireland, we can’t ignore it indefinitely. The demographic sands are shifting towards a United Ireland; Brexit and the attendant political car crash in England have accelerated this process immeasurably.

So Theresa May offered Nissan £60m as a compensation package for damage of Brexit.

How desperate does it have to get? How many companies can you support? Every car or aerospace CEO should be queuing up t the door of Westminster ready for their cheque.

And who will pay for all of these Brexit packages...

Twas available to them all - if I caught the news right, Nissan simply have to reapply, but so can BWM, Vauxhall and others if they meet the criteria. Always has been, always felt like a sweetener to try and keep the Unions on side to me. The Gov lost buckets with Leyland Daf, Rover and they aren't alone.

Yet the simple ones like giving real contracts in return for something (that also gives a company a boost) they never seem to do it appears.

Given the recent shooting of a black man by Californian police, thought it might be time to resurrect Democrat Beto O' Rourke's support for those players in the NFL still taking a knee, to highlight police brutality.

Meanwhile, former San Francisco 49ers Quarter Back Colin Kaepernick, who began the protest remains unemployed and continues to be ostracised, whilst the Cleveland Browns sign running back Kareem Hunt, who was sacked this season by the Rams, when a video showing him punching, kicking and dragging a woman by the hair came to light.

What’s the Labour-voting view of Chuka Umunna? I’ve never voted labour, however he was one candidate who I really liked, seems to talk a lot of sense and comes across as quite measured.

More walking away from Labour.

Chuka, ran for leadership didn't he, got asked his name in such a difficult question and quit the race. Or something as spurious as that. Does largely make sense though.
