Pokemon Go - Yes or No?

One Bloody Number
So Pokemon Go is the new sensation sweeping the world.

Already the news and Facebook is filled with scaremongering and news stories about people walking into traffic, kids sneaking out of their houses at night, kids walking further from home than allowed etc..

But then what about the positives? Getting kids out of the house for starters! Surely thats a big plus?

I only downloaded it last night and already have experienced both sides of the spectrum.... as I was walking down to the common setting it up I twisted my ankle coz I wasn't looking where I was walking.. haha

Oh and how is this for irony..... I got up, looked at my phone and it just happened to be at a point of the setup where it warned me "Please be careful of you surroundings" :3:

It got Sophie out the house and walking with us. Usually she's just spend the night in her room. So for me the positives far outweigh the negatives.

I googled it earlier because a lot of people seem to be talking about it on facebook etc.

This one came up which is a bit of an unforseen thing! lol

Nineteen-year-old Shayla Wiggins, from Wyoming, was told to find a Pokemon in a natural water source but instead found a man's corpse.

And another that made me smile

Kyrie Tompkins, a 22-year-old freelance web designer, fell on the pavement and twisted her ankle while wandering in Waterville, Maine, last week.

"It vibrated to let me know there was something nearby and I looked up and just fell in a hole," she says.

I did read a few things that kids are too busy looking for whatever it is the game says they should look for and not looking while crossing the road etc, but not sure that is any different to the zombie nation we've all become reading texts etc whilst walking!

At least someone is hoping to benefit, besides Nintendo. You've got to be desperate to rely on these sort of tactics!!!

The Church of England is throwing open its doors to players of the online game Pokemon Go

The Church has said the game was "a good way to start a conversation that may lead on to other things".

Junior melon 1 rushed in from school stating his mobile phone was out of charge as he had been playing an "awesome" new game. I guessed it was this pokemon game which i think surprised him. He tried to explain but i just dont get it !!!!!

Quite amusing though. Coming home tonight i saw families and kids wondering around my village looking at their phones!.

Note: when i say my village, i dont actually own the village. Although i might if i start a football forum business.

seems some have found a use for it

Must admit, on the face of it, if it is getting the kids and parents out for some quality time instead of stuck in front of the tv or computer screen, then it looks a good thing to me.

Technology is here now, it's not going away, for it to find a way to get kids into the great outdoors is a plus, same as adults are using fitbits etc.

The dangers like walking into the road etc are dangers they / we all face anyway so that's just got to be part of what parents teach their kids, which one would expect them to be doing anyway!

If you are too busy looking at your phone and you fall down a hole or walk into a road then that's not the phones fault, or the games fault, it's your own for being an idiot. As for the corpse story, again it's not the games fault there was a dead body in real life.

I have downloaded it but haven't really played it, I don't have time to go around looking for Pokemon but I can see why it's popular for kids or Pokemon fans who do have time to play it and play it for nostalgia from playing the card game or gameboy games as a kid. I think it's actually quite a clever game, if it gets people out and about then that's better than having them sitting around playing candy crush

Having seen the permissions list for this "game" anything that wants access to my contacts list, wants my exact locations, can read, modify or delete my usb storage, have full network access, activity recognition, prevent phone from sleeping, access google play billing service, read all your emails, send email as you, access all your Google Drive documents (including deleting them), access any private photos you may store in Google Photos, can pair with bluetooth devices and access the settings while also having access to my camera, can do one as far as I am concerned

We also have natural selection at work, so all those idiots who walk around with their heads down are no real loss to the gene pool

Dean has sadly got himself in a bit of bother over all this as well.

In Pokemon you are meant to catch a crabby.

Dean went to the Malvern's, poked a man and caught crabs.

*awkward*

Suspicions are rising that Pokemon Go is some sort of massive Darwinian experiment, after HM Coastguard was forced to warn the UK populace about the dangers of attempting to capture waterborne varieties of the non-existence pocket monsters. The coastguard said that early this morning, it was “was called to investigate reports of a group of twenty youths taking a rowing boat without permission, to chase a Pokémon across New Brighton marine lake. “By the time authorities arrived, the youths, and the virtual beast, had both disappeared, with the abandoned rowing boat adrift in the middle of the marina. Presumably both Pokemon and youths escaped safely. Senior Coastal Operations Officer, Danny Jamson said: "We know that many people are enjoying Pokémon GO across the UK and we wouldn’t want to spoil that fun. However, we would ask people to use a little common sense and not to take risks while looking for Pokémon. The incident this morning shows that risk taking can put not only you in danger but also the rescue services who have to come to your aid."

Ah, that is where the senior coastal operations officer's words start to fail... 'we would ask people to use a little common sense'...

*awkward*

Wonder what age those youth type people were!?

I have no idea what it is or how it works. I heard of Pokemon years ago, didn't know what they were then, still don't, or really care.

However, this is something I could get into....
