Pochettino.

Poch was on 'thin ice' after our win at their place. Levy would have avoided the after match drinks especially if Mike was there

It's OK though, I've still got the job at Boro. Not sure I'll be able to keep it long enough to be certain of taking them down, but long enough to set them adrift I would think.

Sacking Poch, bringing in Moaninho? Bad move.

He was going at the end of the season anyway but if this was us and especially 6 months after being in the CL final, there'd be ructions on in the media.
Wouldn't happen to us because the chances of playing European football are nil hence the number of appearances on Monday night football. What doesn't get mentioned in the media is the ratio 'home to away' when we are on. Monday coming will be 14 consecutive away when picked for this slot.

You have made me reflect, McNamee.

After some bad news that my father's 4th cancer has returned and is no longer operable, it won't be too long before there will no longer be a male in my family alive when NUFC have won a major domestic trophy.

We have had a few cup finals, even under Ashley a couple of decent managers to give us a little hope (Hughton, Keegan for a short spell and Rafa) but without being backed.

Under Ashley, we have had one Europa League campaign, more by luck than judgement.

Pocchetino is one of those managers who gave a club hope. I wonder if we will have any hope in my lifetime or whether we are stuck with Ashley.

RexN, really very, VERY sorry to read about your Dad lost mine just two years ago and still miss the bugger terribly.

Cheers, Birdys and Billy, much appreciated. I can understand what you mean, Birdys. We are lucky really, his survival from the first diagnosis of this bugger puts him in the top 1% of survivors. Just got back from a curry with him and my son and we have told him to put together a wish list of things to do while he can and create as many happy memories as possible. It also brings out some of those daft expressions of feelings that we never talk about.

On the football front, he hasn't been since Sir Bobby, my last one was under Pardew. On the basis of the last few years, I wonder if one last visit to SJP would be a memory to be treasured or if it would make things worse. We might talk about that in front of the TV on Monday night.

I share the sentiments of others Rexn but as things stand under Ashley, there is nothing to be gained by setting foot in St James' again aside from the cold hard truth hitting home that we're a million miles away from the club we all fell in love with, with it's souless itinery. It'll be a massive shock to those who haven't been in a while.

Cheers, Toony. I want to keep him as happy as we can with the time left.

Back in the day, we used to go together for midweek games and friends on Saturday kick offs.

It sounds as though reminiscing about the abandoned Wrexham match, Bobby Shinton's goal and Kevin Carr's save from his own clearance into the wind, might be a better use of our time.

Sorry to hear about your bad news Rexn and going off on a tangent a bit maybe you can take some small comfort in reflecting on earlier experiences at SJP that you shared with your Dad and you have mentioned on here now and again. The Wrexham game in the early 80's for one, in the rain, when you both attended was a game I was at (maybe even stood next to you the attendance was that low and I was in the East Stand paddock also). Some of the highs and the lows of match day experiences I've shared with my lads home and away when they were just youngsters I wouldn't have missed for anything. I hope you have had similar memories with your Dad.

Cheers, McNamee. Such a brilliant idea that we have been doing some of that today. he left Barnard Castle about 1950 and returned to the North East about 1975 so most of my early NUFC days were at away grounds, plenty in London then at Forest and Derby. We must have been very close to you for that Wrexham one. The most unforgettable was Forest in the cup, back in the hooligan days but more for the events after. We had a police escort back to the station which was a totally different direction to where he parked the car.
