Poch 'relaxed', not Panicking

I like the way he said " winning trophies is success". Basically England finishing in the Semi finals means jack shit. lol

There's clearly frustration about the transfer window. Based on his words, it's more about the European clubs having the longer window. He said "players in AND out" and not sure I read too much into it, but it was implied in his intonation that it's the "out" bit that's bugging him. That implies we may have some deals on ice waiting to happen once we clear the decks.

It really is a ridiculous situation, if you need to sell before you buy you are pretty much snookered. European clubs can simply sit back and wait, they know clubs will be stuck with players they don't want, I can see lots of loaned being done with European clubs.

I'm guessing we can spend money without selling. It's knowing where to spend the money when we still have wanted players who may or may not sign contracts. That makes it tough to know where to allocate the big bucks. On top of that, you have homegrown vs non homegrown statuses which appear to be different for the Prem than the CL.

No doubt Levy and Uncle Joe have decided that moving into the new stadium will keep the plebs happy enough this season.

Same comments he made last season, then a completely different story when the season started

The same old tired first 11 that wasn't good enough to win anything for the whole of Poch's reign so far hasn't been improved yet again.:wahey::bow::grinning: thank you ENIC

Kane and Eriksen to score in a 2-1 win , how very very very very boring and predictable.

He seemed a bit more annoyed in the after the game though. Amazing what 24 hours can do.

We are seeing the same as last year.

Oddly about the same sort of time before the window shut.

Tottenham transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino laughs off Gareth Bale links but admits Spurs must strengthen

Pochettino watched his side lose on penalties to Barcelona during preseason

Mauricio Pochettino laughed when asked whether Gareth Bale could make a fairytale return to Tottenham before the transfer deadline.

“It’s not realistic,” said a smiling Pochettino in response to the question from a Spanish-speaking journalist in his press conference after Saturday night's International Champions Cup encounter against Barcelona.

But while Pochettino claims he is “relaxed” over Spurs’ continued wait to make their first summer signing, the Argentine knows it is imperative that the club add to their ranks before August 9.

Already without their nine World Cup semi-finalists, Pochettino’s options have not been helped by injuries. Moussa Sissoko picked up a hamstring problem in the penalty shootout defeat to the La Liga champions, while Erik Lamela and Victor Wanyama missed the game entirely.

“With or without injuries, I think that’s our target [to bring in players] after finishing last season,” said Pochettino. “We want to add some quality who can help us to achieve the goals we want.

“We are going to see what happens in the next few days.”

When asked why he was so relaxed about the situation, Pochettino said: “Nothing is going to change if you have different moods or humour.

“You need to be relaxed and my focus is on helping the team and to deliver the way we want to play and to arrive in the best condition for the start of the season.”

Two players who have been linked with Spurs, Andre Gomes and Rafinha, both featured in a dominant first half for Barcelona, who went 2-0 up, before Pochettino’s men pegged them back with two goals in as many minutes after the break.

But Pochettino refused to confirm whether the duo were on his hit-list after the pre-season encounter in Pasadena, California.

“I’m not going to talk about targets or names. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks,” he said.

Lamela is expected to be fit for Spurs’ clash against AC Milan, in Minneapolis, while initial indications suggest that Sissoko’s hamstring problem is not serious.

However, it is feared that Wanyama has suffered a repeat of the knee injury which sidelined him for four months last season, with the former Southampton midfielder flying back to London to see a specialist.

Pochettino said: “Wanyama has gone back to London because they need to see the doctor there and we are going to assess over the next few days and see what happens.

Spurs struck down by more injuries in penalty shootout defeat to Barca

“[With Sissoko] we hope it’s a minor injury, but he feels something in his hamstring.”

The benefit of the depleted options is that Pochettino has had a chance to take a closer look at Spurs’ academy products, with midfielder Luke Amos particularly catching the manager’s eye after starting both of the first two games in the US.

“It’s amazing to give the opportunity to players like Luke Amos or Skippy [Oliver Skipp],” he added. “To play against Roma and [against Barcelona] is a fantastic experience for them to enjoy. That experience is massive. We need to take positive things in a negative period of some injuries.”

This is the biggest problem I see us having. The ONLY way to bring the PL more in-line with the other top European leagues is to ditch one on the cup competitions, so our team's don't have to play more fixtures. Start our season in September after the window shuts and have a January break. The League Cup is a time sap.

NOT so relaxed now....

Mauricio Pochettino has told reporters ahead of Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Girona that he is ‘not relaxed’ about Tottenham Hotspur’s lack of transfer dealings.

The transfer window closes at 5pm next Thursday and Spurs remain the only Premier League club who are yet to bring in any new faces during the summer transfer window.

A whole host of players have been linked with a switch to Spurs, including Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, but the stark reality is that we are about to start the season with no key additions.

Pochettino revealed that the club are trying to bring in new players and made an interesting comment where he suggested that he was not the right person to explain the reason why there have been no new signings, which reading between the lines, one can assume it is aimed at chairman Daniel Levy.

We all know Levy’s reputation to try and drag deals out and try and save a few quid with just minutes to spare before the window closes.

“Yes. We are working so hard but still we are like it’s the first day of the transfer window – with no signings,” he told a press conference.

“I think I am not the person to explain it.

“Of course, people expect the manager to explain that but, for different reasons, it’s been difficult to add players who can help us. But in the last week many things can happen.”

“I’m not relaxed because I’m a coach and you cannot be relaxed,” he added.

“I think you need to be confident and trust in the people we have and the way that we work.

“Of course, football is all about adding more quality every season like our rivals are doing.

“If we cannot do that, we need to try to be creative and, of course, the help of younger players will be amazing and they showed they can help us if, in the end, we cannot sign players.”

Sounds a bit tetchy don't he. This is similar to the (make of it what you will) comment recently on his previous brave and risk statement.

Now it's "don't ask me ".

Not sure I'd be relaxed. Staring down the barrel of an injury crisis, haven't seen the core of my WC players and no transfer activity. Add to that 3 of the first 4 games are televised matches.

Let's hope Poch has a beaming smile by Friday morning.

Any new signing wont affect the first month of the season

It might well lift the mood and stop some feeling complacent and that could be a big bonus.

But they have to f***ing happen first!

Get the feeling you are getting/are annoyed at the club?

Get the feeling you are getting/are annoyed at the club?

I'm really not - I think we set our sights on two major deals and both would be fraught with difficulty - Grealish is a 'side show'.

But if we don't get Martial or Zaha, we will have badly blown it and I fear for what the back up targets now are...
