Poch: "it's all about the pay..."..

Alert Team
As I keep saying, CL football helps but at the end of the day it's ALL about being able to pay the wages players *might* get elsewhere...in 3/4 years time it's unlikely to be the issue it is today...until then as always when money talks bullshit walks..

Spurs still struggling to compete on wages, claims Pochettino
Despite their highest Premier League finish, Tottenham cannot mix it with the big boys in the transfer market, says Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino concedes Tottenham are unable to match their Premier League rivals when it comes to offering wages to potential targets.

The Argentinian has led Spurs to second this season – their highest top-flight finish since 1963 – as they continue to improve under his tutelage.

Champions League football beckons for a second straight campaign in 2017-18, but Pochettino believes the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City are a cut in their ability to meet the salary demands of the top stars.

When asked if Spurs would avoid entering into bidding wars with those clubs in the off-season, Pochettino replied: "Of course. You know better than me it is so difficult.

"We talk about 'if Tottenham are in the Champions League, it will be more attractive.' But then it's all about if you pay or not when we talk about top players.

"We have unbelievable facilities, but if some club is paying double the salary, then how can you convince them? We cannot lie to you. That is the reality.

"You need younger players, like Dele Alli, who preferred to come here than another club. We took a big risk on Dele Alli and now he is a massive player, one of the most important in England. But who took the risk? Us."

In other words another team that is nearly there will be broken up and sold off.

Thanks Uncle Joe, you're a great businessman, but a ******* lousy football man.

No worries Chiv. Porky has already single handedly developed the lads in the U21's and they are going to be ready to step straight in and match the performances of the first eleven when they get fed up being paid (relative) buttons and leave to sit on the bench elsewhere to pick up 2x-3x more salary.

Until we're one of the top dogs, it will be ever thus; we have a glass ceiling to break and we haven't done it yet, but at least now we can see the fcuking glass.

Also read that as a message to Alli, you owe us you can't leave just yet

Danny Murphy suggested Levy makes a gesture by explaining to the players our financial situation and increasing wages from 100k to say 130 k. Then hope the player will appreciate that as much as possible is being done.

One day we can hope to pay the same wages as Palace, Zaha is reportedly being offered 110 k a week to stay.

All our players have reached CL twice on the trot, yet Uncle Joe expects them to play for peanuts in comparison to other CL teams or even teams like Palace.

Uncles Joe's vision for this club is a ginormous profit for him, and that vision hasn't changed since day one.

If anyone in their right mind thinks football benefits from this type of leech then good luck to them, I don't.

I really really wouldn't believe all that you read in the papers; that said their new American investors are doing what many new owners often do and make big promises and help making money available for transfers - there is already disquiet amongst them at the growth in wages - so the Palace fans had better hope that this lot have much deeper pockets than Jordan (who it almost Bankrupt)...

My bet is that if the success doesn't come quickly, they'll rethink everything they're doing - and step back pretty quickly, owning a Premier League club isn't the same as owning a franchise in Amercian sports and I suspect they're going to learn the hard way.
