The Playoffs will extend to 6 teams next season.

The 3rd and 4th will go straight into the semi-finals

5th, 6th, 7th and 8th will then play a one-off eliminator

5th vs 8th

6th vs 7th

Then they will go on to face the 3rd and 4th teams in the current format.

I disagree with play offs in theory already but this is a step too far.

I have a better idea.
How about the bottom 3 get relegated and top 2 to up automatically as now.
Then 3rd to 18 th get to play offs.
3 rd play 18 th and 4 th play 17 th and so on until 8 get through and continue with knock out competition until the final played at wembley.
By the time it has been completed the winning team getting promoted with have 1 week before start of following season to sign new players : )

The teams still playing when the window opens could sign new players and use them in the playoffs. That would have the effect of a pre season and make them ready to challenge in the Premier League.
Even better if ffp is suspended for those teams so they can compete with the Prem teams who got away with it before.
