That is always the number one reason I wouldn't play someone - whether they are the last choice or not. I'd sooner play a player out of position than entertain one who is protecting himself.

He does have a very good record of self-preservation. Before this season five continuous seasons of 31+ Premier League appearances.

I quite respect his decision for wanting to leave for first team football. He could have a very well-paid, cushy gig staying here as a squad player but he's putting his football ambition first.
