Even if they are not regular you get quite a few who then choose Lincoln as the second team though. Going to uni gives many of the students a real allegiance to the city.

I think the big factor with the uni is more it's overall impact it has on the city and the general economy of the area as it draws investment into the city. Even just running the uni supports 1600 jobs directly and probably many more indirectly, all of that means more disposable income available to spend at Sincil Bank.

Note that the Students Union also pay for a Executive Box as well. Nice to see Union Funds spent wisely.

They often get misused look at "man of the people Scargill" he bled the NUM to the very end!

Oh come on Casper .Lets not got political .The thread will only get closed because your lot never win the debate .Has Prince Philip sorted his car insurance out? Must have cost him a few bob .Got himself a nice new motor next day and not a seat belt in sight . Where does he find the money ?See what I mean .You are knocked out the park already .

Scargill was right, though. The government had a secret plan to destroy mining and British industry in order to enrich its Tory supporters. And that's exactly what they did. He may not be have been perfect, but I'd take him over Thatcher and her henchmen any day.

All the same same brush. Tories, Scargill, Labour. Looking after themselves and at the end of the day it's just how they go about it.

You have me totally wrong Oldguard I can't stand the Tories. I just dislike our entire political establishment. We have to have them but at the end of the day they are all pretty much the same in my eyes!

Scargill was - a very flawed - Socialist. They generally look after the mass of people, not a priviliged minority, like the Tories.

I get your point, though. We need a political dynamic that actually involves us all and is equitable. Over to you!

I'm on it Lads!

I can remember lincoln prison being picketed because innocent miners had been banged up in lincoln.
Bob Crowe was the greatest union man. £100k a week for tube drivers... amazing

He was indeed right, he just went about it the wrong way and his timing sucked. He had been a little savvy the outcome may have been very different.

Required reading of the events is Dominic Sandbrook's mighty tome "State of Emergency". The irony was Thatcher hated Heath with a passion, but still wanted to wreak revenge on the TUs for what they had wrought on Heath.

Because Heath represented the Tory party and Tories always rally round the party. We are seeing that now, but the opposition are no better either. 'Party politics' nowadays seems more of a barrier to actually governing the country properly. Looking forward to Oldguard's manifesto

We had the chance to change things in the PR referendum and we turned it down, it would have led to more coalitions equalling a more consultative approach.

Definitely agree FPTP is not an ideal system. The problem was, AV as offered was a dog's dinner, as well.
