What are your views? I tend to have a negative attitude to it but it does have it's place. For treating disfigurement, no matter how it comes about, it should be freely available for all that want it, as long as medically sensible. Similarly, where there is shown to be a medical benefit, it should be on the NHS.

When it's puely cosmetic, people should be free to use their money how they want but I do get pissed off with stories of breast augmentation, and the like, happening at the expense of the tax payer. On similar lines, fees for all cosmetic surgery procedures should include a premium for insurance should the results not be favourable, that way yhe NHS need not be out of pocket cleaning up the mess caused by others, as can be the case.

Cant help but think there is an element of exploitation going on when it comes to cosmetic reasons. There is always some shark out there that will take the money and turn a beautiful girl with vanity issues into a real life Barbie Doll. Its ok saying if a person has money, they should be able to do as they wish - but a lot of these issues could be solved by talking them through, rather than going under the knife.

If I had the money spare the only work I would have done would be a tummy tuck, after I have finished losing the weight which I am doing. Tummy is the only thing that could do with a bit of extra work having had 4 children, even when I was a flat 9 stone.

I would have some dental work too, which isn't plastic surgery, however that would be it for me. I have a friend who has had plastic surgery so I would go with who did hers. I would have to go on recommendations as there are too many horror stories out there

Same issues over here though Martin. Besides, I pay more in tax than most in the UK so :5:

Maxillofacial VOTN, had broken my nose 4 separate occasions and I couldn't breathe. Had first one in 1976 at the General. They cut too much away and I lost my bridge to my nose do
It was flat. Then in 2004 I had bad sinus issue and they decided to try and rebuild it so I had to have what turned into major reconstruction which left me with a 4 inch scar on my cheats where they had to get cartilage from my rib. It's much better but I still can't breathe properly. I got an infection after the op and was rushed back in as it wasn't very nice!

As soon as they perfect this surgery i am going to have a donkey d*ck!

So what are you saying Trekker, that you didn't need the slong extention?

Seriously though, your case is typical of medical necesity. A mate of mine has recently been opperated on by one of the top plastic surgeons in the world for a serious issue cased by infections around the base of his spine, initially caused by a series of ingrowing hairs. Both you and he had a medical need, hardly comparrible to breast augmentation or a face lift.

This is the thing, there is a distinction in plastic surgery and many don't see it.

It isn't always vanity, sometimes it is to correct injuries, breaks or accident damage.

I'd also not want to deny those with certain growths or the red birthmark type markings that some have the right to have them corrected on the NHS, not life threatening but life affecting (especially when you, kids are bullies and pick on differences)

But the few cases you see in the papers that sometimes get put up on here (as I don't read the papers) where the titties are paid for by the NHS etc are wrong.

I knew a lady who had to have hers reduced though, no idea if on the NHS or private, but they were giving back aches etc

I'd need to see the data as to how much is spent on the NHS for purely vanity type of surgeries like bigger titties, I'd be surprised if there were many cases of this but haven't ever researched.

I do think, having had so many ops, unless something is needed, it is more often than not best avoided.

As kefkat mentions a tummy tuck, I understand the clamour for that, however, I don't think people truly realise the gravity of such ops and just how big the ops can be and the impact.

My ribs were a horrible site, sunken in and I wanted to be 'normal'... to be fair they also then found my heart was pushed to one side so it MIGHT have been needed anyway.

So at the age of 13 I had them operated on. I've been in agony ever since and many many ops followed, metal bars holding them up moving, metal clips in there etc. Never a minute of my life they don't hurt oppressively now. Imagine all your ribs hurting and pressing down. It's a very big area!

The docs should have either done it earlier when the bones were more pliable or said it wasn't an operation that could be done UNLESS it started to prove necessary heart wise.

Have you seen the face on that bint on Big Brother, if ever there was an alarm call to make people stop and look at possibility of a mistake getting made then she is the face people should look at.
18 Implants and she ended up looking like she fell out the Fugley tree and hit her face on all the branches on the way down.

Tell that to the Daily Fail, The Bun and The 'we won't look in a' Mirror - I won't include the Star because I don't believe even c**ts read that and similar of its ilk.
