Pitch

I did the stadium tour last month it was excellent
One of the things we learnt was the pitch has 28miles of nylon running
The length of it,they sow grass seeds on that which grow through
The nylon giving it a very strong root, that is why the pitch does not
Cut up or have devious and always looks great
I wonder if that is causing problems due to less give in the pitch
I can't see the players doing anything in warm up different to other
Teams ,so if it's not the training
I am more than likely wrong but it would be interesting to see what other clubs use same type of pitch

The pitch always looks in pristine condition as it did yesterday, but I would say it is not the cause of the problem with injuries 37 different ones up to yesterday

The stadium pitch, the academy pitch and I think all the training pitches at the CFA use something called the iDesso GrassMaster Turf system. This is probably what was described to Colin during the tour with the nylon binding the grass roots.

I don't know whether this might be a factor but all I can say is that when I have played on the surfaces at the stadium and the academy for the Football Aid events held there the surface is quite firm and unforgiving. Former than any other grass pitch I have ever played on and last time I participated I picked up an injury to my Achilles and/or calf which I have yet to shake off.

Now I am much older than these guys and nowhere near their physical shape but I play football regularly (including 11 a side on grass) and am reasonably fit for my age but have never suffered with that know of problem before.

Might be something in it as it does seem odd that we are getting a lot of similar problems occurring.

Having said that I read somewhere previously about a player suffering muscular problems and the issue was identified as being his Ferrari sports car because of the way in which the pedals were offset slightly. The way in which this caused him to twist slightly in order to drive appeared to be putting unusual strain on his hamstrings etc. Not sure who the player was or whether he was at City.

In fact I believe that Gareth Bale has recently had to give up driving his Lamborghini because of the problems it was giving him with his hamstrings. There was a daily star article on this but I couldn't open the link without signing in and opening myself up to more spam than I cared to receive.

I drive an automatic VW Golf so I have ruled this out in my case ;-)

How long have we used this type of surface? I'm guessing for several years now, why then are the muscle injuries so prevalent just this season? I know we've had muscle injuries in past seasons but that nothing out of the ordinary when you look at other clubs, for some reason this season we're getting far more than anyone else.

I think the system has been in place at the stadium for a few seasons but of course we have only just started training at the CFA twelve months ago.

I'm not sure if it had ever been installed at Carrington but I would have thought not - I doubt the expense would have been sanctioned given the planned move to the CFA. Even our owners aren't going to throw money away on a facility we are planning to leave.

If that is the case then training on one surface most of the week plus away games would have meant substantially less time spent working on this new surface than they have experienced in the last year.

Speculation of course but it does seem odd that we have shipped so many muscle problems in the past year.

Hmmmm, would going from one surface to the other not increase the risk of injury if indeed it is a problem with the surface? It does seem strange though that the increase in injuries coincides with our move to the CFA.

Skoorb - I also drive a (blue) VW Golf and I can report no hamstring or calf injuries.

What do other posters drive and are there any injuries that could be linked to their chosen vehicles?

:134: Spooky. Mind you after the emissions admissions I have been wondering whether there are any members of the VW board that are also members of UEFA...

I can report no injuries whilst travelling on the local buses and trams*

*except where alcohol has been involved

I drive an Audi Q3, which is just a upbeat golf and can report no issues whatever with my hammys or calfs for that matter.

Seems like we might have discovered a potential solution guys - time for the players to get out of their Lamborghinis, Ferraris and other expensive motors and start driving VW derivatives.

Skoda's may be an option.....

Didn't Yaya get a driving ban recently for speeding? Or was it just points and a fine? Anywho.......maybe Navas could pick him up too and squeeze him in the back?
