Grass will not grow in winter months and fertilizer, no matter how good, is not enough, simple as that. Grass has to be around 16 degrees for a sustainable growing rate. As I recall, all pitches were bad in the 70s, in winter and early spring. Unless we install under soil heating and employ a decent groundsman, we will forever face this problem and have players and manager blaming the surface for bad performances. Having said that, there's not much football played on it ! :( Rant over.

For many years BFC and Ipswich were acknowledged as the finest pitches in what was then the Football League. In those days they were used every Saturday because all clubs featured reserve team football. The state of the pitch in recent years is mainly down to lack of investment in the pitch as well as inadequate maintenance.

Pitch started to be dug up today.
Not seen any news on it so guessing they are not doing a webcam :grinning:
Cost being a 6 figure sum, not the full redig and complete overhaul - interesting to see if the SW corner uncovers the Ormerod money.

Pitch Renovation Begins
Off-Season Work Starts On Playing Surface

The first stage of the club's off-season pitch renovations began today, with the top level being shaved off.
The process, known as Koroing, is a regular process used on football and rugby pitches to remove the surface of vegetation and organic matter.
It will be followed by a period of cultivation and levelling, prior to fibre sand, seed and fertiliser being added.
The new pitch will be ready in time for the club's pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 27 July, kick-off 3pm.

West Corner
Club Looks To Rectify Issue

A problematic corner of the Bloomfield Road pitch has had some additional work done in the last 24 hours.
Extra depth has been removed from the playing surface in the South West corner after continual issues throughout the campaign.
The area was completely saturated and holding too much water due to some previous re-turfing that had been done.
However, all the organic matter and slushy soil that was present has now been stripped and dug out to allow for the problem to be rectified moving forward.
