PGMO contact Forest that Salisbury’s decision was wrong.

They're admitting he got it very badly wrong (again). They should award Forest a point in compensation but they won't.

That would be a horrific can of worms to open. Best thing is to just sort the standard of refs out. VAR should be a safety net that is more than capable of catching these fuck ups and preventing them. Need to bin off this nonsense about the ref having final say. If VAR can see it's wrong then VAR should make the call. They've got replays and the refs will just have to get thicker skin if they're upset at being overruled. It's the fans who have to sit through the entire process, cut that "sent to the monitor" shit out and shorten the process.
 
Think RU has got it as close to correct as anyone can get. No private monitors. Put it on big screen, everyone knows what is being looked at. The officials all look at screen and debate what is being seen. They agree what happens and penalty. Ref has final say but in the case at weekend Salisbury would have to explain why he saw an accidental handball after coming off thigh where as everyone else saw him control the ball with his arm. One person making a call is diminished. Let’s hear the discussion, not be secretive about it.

With these types of mistakes clubs should be given an offset for future fines for say breach of PSR etc .

VAR is/was designed to assist a referee and secure an even better outcome to ensure the correct decisions are reached. VAR actually did it's job, they told him it was handball and that BM had gained an unfair advantage.

The fact that he ignores that guidance, from 3 chaps sat in a portacabin with various replays, means that this is just a ludicrous decision and the ref should now lose his EPL ticket, relegated to L1 or L2.

An apology is not good enough, he should be punished and a rethink of whether any ref, in a hostile footballing environment, should be allowed to overturn the VAR panel decision.

I agree with every word except the L1, L2 bit. Why should they have to put up with him. He should be sacked full stop.

Exactly. In fact demoting sub- standard referees to the Championship or below is just giving them more power and less scrutiny, as there is no VAR. That means their poor decisions can cause more damage.

The sanction/ intervention, should be further training and further assessment before being restored. That is what would happen in any other job. And ultimately, if they cannot get it right, then sack them.

Salisbury thought he was interpreting the laws of the game correctly. So how about referees facing such complaints are suspended whilst being retrained. They are returned to active duty when they reach a minimum level in a test of the laws of the game. They should be able to get 99% in such a test.

If they know the rules it shouldn’t be a big ask. Teams get promoted or relegated by what the ref DOES NOT KNOW.

"Its struck his hand - the issue we have is whether you see it as deliberate or not Michael"

Something like that

And that gets them discussing it. SalIsbury hasnt made that decision all off his own back

Then when hes said accidental theyve all gone with it together

Horribly bad decision regardless but I bet sonething like that happened

Do they publish transcripts post event. If not they should do in order to try and educate fans how the mistakes are made

Maybe we could sympathise more in some cases knowing the issues they were looking at
