PGMO contact Forest that Salisbury’s decision was wrong.

Ref should be sacked

Imagine if we were still fighting for survival.

That's the real issue, what if we needed a point and that decision was responsible for a relegation? There are literally millions of £s riding on such decisions, because that may have helped us finish 1 or even 2 places further up the league!

VAR is/was designed to assist a referee and secure an even better outcome to ensure the correct decisions are reached. VAR actually did it's job, they told him it was handball and that BM had gained an unfair advantage.

The fact that he ignores that guidance, from 3 chaps sat in a portacabin with various replays, means that this is just a ludicrous decision and the ref should now lose his EPL ticket, relegated to L1 or L2.

An apology is not good enough, he should be punished and a rethink of whether any ref, in a hostile footballing environment, should be allowed to overturn the VAR panel decision.

The whole refereeing system needs to be overhauled or even scrapped and start again. Every weekend there are issues with VAR, the laws of the game and their interpretation. The lack of consistency where ONE tackle in one game is violent conduct, and a similar tackle in another game isn’t even punished.
Aren’t there supposed to be FA observers at every match to “score” each referee. If so what’s the point if referees like Salisbury REPEATEDLY make such obvious mistakes. With the billions going through the game, shouldn’t the referee be put up in front of a panel to explain his errors, when a complaint is made. Repeated attendance at such panels should be grounds for dismissal. In any event the following issues need to be looked at

Rugby scrums at corners.
What constitutes violent conduct and a red card.
The rules surrounding handball.
VAR interventions are final and can not be turned over by the referee.
Videos of VAR discussions to be made available to plaintiffs.
Repeated poor performance by referees to be disciplined from “re-education/retraining” to dismissal according to severity.

VAR is an inanimate object - it provides a platform for the referees to correct their clear and obvious mistakes via the administration team - it does not make judgements or decisions, just provides an accurate account of what happened.

VAR is not the problem, its the people involved in the process who are the problem.

There is no external governance, and the situation will not improve until there is.

They are self governing; they adjudicate on their own colleagues and have no accountability - they set their own punishments for their colleagues when they are found to be wrong, and offer the paying public nothing more than a feeble apology.

The punishments they do impose are meaningless and nothing more than token gestures.

Incompetence and a lack of accountability is a poisonous cocktail.

Its a shame the powers that be do not put as much effort into sorting out a genuine problem like this as they do when they find people hanging around in bushes in public areas watching teams train.

I think the bloke needs sacking on the grounds of gross misconduct. He made that decision for no other reason other than wanting to be the star of the show. You just can't allow that in my opinion, far too much at stake in today's football.
Who is going to sack him?

Next week, he will be sitting in judgement on the person who is sitting in judgement on him this week.

Its nothing more than elitist self preservation

IMO The problem isn't with the laws of the game it's the ridiculous interpretation of them that has allowed them to become so overcomplicated that no one knows what's going on.

Officials apply the laws differently in the penalty area to how they do over the rest of the pitch,

They try judge the force of a push, a tackle etc, they try to judge whether someones arm is in a natural position, they've made every incident so complex we'll never get consistency.

Just go back to applying the lwas of the game, a push is a push, a shirt pull is a shirt pull, don't try to judge the severity of the push, or whether a player "lets go of the shirt quickly enough" just apply the laws the players would soon get the hang of it.

With our European games it really has highlighted how much better most, not all but most of the Euro refs are than our lot

I've always said that VAR should be provided by & administered by a completely different organisation than PGMOL so we haven't got this stupid situation of not wanted to show up their mates errors etc. After such a long time it's going to be incredibly difficult to correct what is happening now as it has become so deeply entrenched but we really need to try

Even 1 place higher in the league is something like a guaranteed 500k per team . Could be even higher now

It is a weird one as in this case VAR did its job, and in a funny way the ref was ok in that he stuck by his decision which as we have seen rarely happens when VAR gets involved. However in this case the ref got it badly wrong and had ample opportunity and help to get it right. Makes him look either shit or bias.

Thing is pre VAR if he had got that same decision wrong we would be upset and moan but move on. Because VAR showed him so clearly his mistake you can’t really understand how he still fucked it

One thing is certainly true and that’s we are def talking more about refs and decisions more than before VAR came into the game

Yes we are, but in a way VAR was born out of the greater scrutiny that referees had already become subject to as the number & quality of cameras at each game increased prior to VAR.

It highlighted the number & magnitude of mistakes they were making that led to the clamour for VAR which it was said would solve all those problems & make sure that wrongs were righted. That went well didn't it

That's the thing isn't it? I watched that decision unfolding before my very eyes. A Premier Leaugue referee being helped by the latest available technology to reach the correct decision on a huge call. He then made that call I believe for his own personal reasons, there was no mistake to change just the right decision to be made. He is either on the take (which I doubt by the way) or has a massive ego ( which I think is the case).Either way he needs taking to one side and talking to or to be sacked.

The Commentary on $ky was making it very clear that VAR were saying it shouldn’t be a goal which just makes Salisbury’s stance and refusal to rule out the goal absolutely ridiculous.

And the PGMO statement that ‘a different decision should have been made’ just shows their cronyism. I wasn’t expecting them to say that Salisbury was a stubborn idiot but just say he was wrong in clear language rather than hedging.
