Perth Glory v Chelsea friendly

Just watching the Glory v Chelsea friendly. Three players that played for the Chelsea U21s against us in the Checkatrade. Hudson-Odoi just skinned the Glory FB after 4 minutes, peach of a cross and Chelsea scored. They obviously don't have Eadley playing at RB ??

Are you watching it on the TV or at the stadium? what's the standard of the A League though?

Sorry guys - was offline for a while. I was watching it on TV. P*****g down with rain here, for a change. As for the standard - not that impressive. They are improving from a few years ago but I get very frustrated watching Aussie football as they can be very naive & disorganised at times. That's reflected a bit in the Aussie international team, though many of their players now play in Europe. Trouble with the A League is it only has 10 teams & not a huge amount of money, so there's a limit to how competitive it gets in terms of the quality of players we can attract. I remember Simon Yeo when he played for NZ Knights said it was about Conference standard. Now, I'd say its probably about L1 standard on a good day. Having said that Chelsea only managed a single goal win tonight.

One thing makes me laugh - listening to UK teams talking about the distance travelled for away games. Imagine Wellington playing Perth Glory (or vice versa) - only an 8 hour plus flight, each way. Every away game for Perth Glory is at least a four hour flight. Just tickles me ?

SKA-Khabarovsk in the Russian Premier League had to fly 7 hours for their nearest away game last season, and over 10 hours for the furthest! Unsurprisingly they were relegated.

Atmosphere bar a few games is poor brisbane has a 55000 seater stadium this year the avg would be 10000 roughly. Far more exciting watching my son in u 18s and reserves until a broken wrist ended his season and my daughters u14s. Until they change things here through the whole football scenery i cant see it improving

I was in NZ when Yeo was at the Knights. They played in Auckland for one match and, starved of football in a rugby world, I went along. It was like watching a school kickabout, the crowd didn't have a clue and I left utterly deflated.

I was news editor of the Auckland paper when NZ went undefeated at the world cup, and litteraly had to campaign to the chief ed to get late editions to cover the games. Staying in the office till 4am to write about the 'glorious' draw with Italy was fun, but it put next to no sales on baseline. A regular season Blues game was of far more interest.

Doesn't surprise me at all.
