I would just like to point out that after last season there were quite few people that thought we had let the one chance we had to win the league slip out of our hands and we would never get near that level again.

Well you were wrong. We were closer this year. And better in almost every aspect. While I am as pissed off at Pochettino as anyone in regard to the FA semi and the West Ham game we have improved.

No trophies. Not good. Being in contention for a 2nd year running. Outstanding.

It's also worth noting that our opposition was stronger in every single aspect this season according to most, if not all the pundits, where as last season those who wanted to belittle our achievement were quick to claim that they'd all weakened...

Our progression is crystal clear, only a very few obstinate minority aren't big enough to acknowledge it now.

Let's see how the ' progression ' looks this time next season.

I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong if Wembley and losing some first teamers this summer hasn't affected anything, but I doubt I'll have to hold my hands up.

That's what's so galling about 2 good seasons with nothing to show for it, this is as good as it got for this team, back to square 1 after this.

There can only be one answer to such unmitigated pessimism : we're know soon enough...

A pessimist is what an idealist calls a realist, we've been here before recently under Harry, what's different this time, Uncle Joe going to put his hand in his pocket :59:

Perspective...I like that.

At the start of the season many thought that Ars*nal would still be what they have been for 20 years, that City and United and Chelsea would be back and that Liverpool would be a huge threat.

None of those things happened and, trust me, that wasn't because of Porky.

We have improved this year as a team and I even think Porky has progressed as a manager, BUT you have to be blind to think that we have moved onto a really high level - check out our abject performances in the EL and CL for proof. The fact is the others have largely been pretty awful and left a bit of a domestic vacuum, which we have taken advanatage whilst still contriving to f'up all the competitions other than the PL.

Next season in their 2nd year Mourinho, Pep and Conte will be even more settled and quite likely to be rapidly catching up the lost ground. As for Ars*nal......depends on who is managing. What will we do?

Uncle Joe will sell a few and have us playing at Wembley while the new stadium is being made ready so he can line his pockets, that's all he's ever done.

How are we closer to the league this year? At one point last year it was in our hands....

I believe you made a very similar comment last year. That is perpective.

Spurs were a lot closer and had a better chance for the league last season. 2-1 up against 10 man Arse was the turning point for me last season a game spurs had in their hands was let slip by dodgy Subs and a blunder by hugo. This season the chavs set a hot pace and are worthy champs. The FA cup defeat still hurts because spurs were good enough to beat the Chavs, however, MP bad so many bad decisions he gave the game to Don Conte.

That's an interesting 'perspective' on old Joe; whilst he may not have injected vast sums, he's pocketed SFA...(so far)...

His pay-off or more likely his heirs will be when the club eventually gets sold.

Presumably you have looked through all of the accounts since they bought control to know that?

His aim is to work his way ever higher in the list of the Worlds Richest Men, and that has taken place year on year aided by the significant increase in value of the Spurs related. That has always been the plan and he may never trouse the money before he dies but that is irrelevant. What is relevant is that the aim was not to buy us with a view to becoming an on-field footballing collosus.

Yes, I've analysed the accounts every year since ENIC bought the club, I've done the same with ENIC's...

As for his motives or Levy's or what they weren't or were prepared to do/risk, that too has been done to death here many a time.

They run the club as a properly constituted business, some liked it, some didn't. During their time there's been a number of spectacular billionaire fails, and at least one spectacular success.

Many a fan were/are proud of the fact that we didn't have a sugar-daddy that threw money at the club, just as many wanted a sugar daddy and still do....

So you decide what side of that debate you're on, I did a long time ago.

I think we are on an upward curve, or have been.

Playing at Wembley and prudent finances will I predict see us slip back slightly . My realistic prediction is a tough top 4 fight next season. The big boys may falter again and give us a chance . I would throw everything at CL next season, no compromises or risks. Full on attack at it.

It's taken 20 years to get here. So there is understandably some doubt.

However, Ex is correct. Other than Levy's annual salary and bonus very little has been taken out of the club....if anything.

We won't need a sugar daddy. We will have a machine that prints cash and is not dependent on the owner's generosity. I liked tha days when sports teams were the toys of the wealthy. When the owner's ego and desire to win fuelled the amount of cash they were willing to throw at the club. But it wasn't sustainable.

What we have and will have is sustainable. We will be one of the financial elite's of sport. When that kicks into gear we will be a juggernaut.

Would be great to improve again next season in the league but we ain't winning the title playing at Wembley. We will struggle to finish top 5 IMO.

If we finish 5th/6th and win a trophy I will be okay with that.

That's why I would like a real go at CL or EL. If we are struggling for top 4 or 5 it could redeem the season.

To do well in Europe NRD we need to sign some pace/speed and flair. I just don't know if we will spend the money required.

As we found out this season without them qualities you come up short playing at Wembley.

I think Poch had his PL tinted specs on this season. Team selections in Europe suggested that. I would reverse that bias next season and have a real good go at Europe. I hope we do sign a couple of top players but won't hold my breath.
