Vital Reserves Team
New manager, but the same players.
What tactical changes will he make, and who will start?

He's played different formations, depending on where he's been, squad and opposition.

Fenerbahçe away
3-4-2-1
Ortega
Aina, Milo, Murillo
Williams, Sangare, Anderson, Netz
MGW, CHO
Igor

Has his appointment been announced? I just can't get enthused by him at all.
Obviously, I want him to do well, as this means we stay up, but I don't think it'll work out.

Fucking hell, that looks awful

Hopefully he's not stupid or arrogant enough to throw everything the team knows out the window

If we are staying up, it will be starting with a solid defence. That's what is worrying me.

4-3-3 needs to be the extent of the change, if that- and I'm skeptical about that.

Standard back 4

Sangare, Anderson, MGW

Hutch, Awoniyi, CHO.

Jesus would be one of those front three options, but on the wing, not the centre.

Shockingly, I still think Awoniyi is the best fit specialist striker we have, hence why we are fighting relegation

Dominguez also an option for the middle three, but that would mean MGW on the wing, which is useless

Thing is with Nuno, he had a good record and you could at least see how he could do well

And matched the style we already had
True, but I'm eternally an optimist so I'll cling to the optimism that this might somehow randomly work out for us.

tbh i never really know what to think when we hire a new manager.

If I look at the managers I've been truly excited about taking us over, they've usually done the worst out of everyone.

Let's give him a chance. I think that Perreira has been following us for some time now, waiting for the phone to ring.
Don't think there is time for drastic changes, the secret is going to be motivational and players enjoying their football.
Days on the training pitch are going to be limited so receiving and digesting feedback from the players will be more useful then spending hours on the training ground trying to " change" things too much.
If it was me, one of the first thi gs that I do is, gather the players in the meeting room, show them videos of the fans singing the Mull and then I turn back to the players and tell them...let's do it for " them" ... I would even be honest and say, that if we ( coach and players) might fail and get relegated...then in the summer we go somewhere else with our bank accounts still intact but what about the fans? Etc etc

I just don't see it doing

Everyone know's this guy is here till May at best, including him. That seems to be his entire CV to be honest

His style is a risky one for the PL and particularly for the players we have.

And to stay up we have to relegate West Ham. I do not see West Ham going down under Nuno, which means we have to. Forget any nonsense about Spurs going down. They may have made a bad choice but they have strikers and we don't

Disastrous transfer window cost us about £60m last year and is going to cost us £120m+ next year

3-4-2-1 got him good results with Wolves, when he saved them last year. Also at Fenerbahçe, when he was there. Effectively a 5-3-2 defensively. Very helpful to kill a game.

He has played loads of 4-3-3 back in the day (Porto), 4-5-1 defensively.

Alternative 3-4-2-1
Ortega
Milo, Morato, Murillo
Aina, Sangare, Anderson, Williams
MGW McAtee
Igor

But you didnt think so at the time of his appointment.

I can distinctly remember you being critical of him, particularly our home form, and that extended into the following season.

Why would he do that?

I would have thought that his first priority would be to get some kind of performance from the team.

Surely the best way of doing that would be to play to whatever strengths we have.

Given the regularity that he has taken over new sides, he will know that his best chances of advancing successfully will be through evolution not revolution, and I am sure big Ange will confirm that if he cares to speak with him.

Wolves had Cunha and a Strand Larsen who suited that system

If we had Cunha or a striker who could score like Strand Larsen, we wouldn't be having this conversation about impending relegation

It's just so unlikely to work in the 12 games we have, almost all of which are against very decent opposition.

But you didnt think so at the time of his appointment.
My exact concerns at the time of his appointment, and feel free to check this:

1) a whole bunch of people had been vociferously hating on the defensive football of Cooper. I warned that if they didn't like Cooper for being defensive then they weren't going to like Nuno much either.

2) I felt that the fans, and that connection, were what carried us through previously and felt we would lose this edge under Nuno, who to me felt like just another manager. In the short term I was right, because we did lose that- in the long term I was wrong as we gained it back to an extent- although never as much as with Cooper.

I can distinctly remember you being critical of him, particularly our home form, and that extended into the following season.
Our first 6 months under Nuno were dire.

We were unlucky at times and clearly targeted by referees.

But we won three home games in 6 months- Man Utd, West Ham and Fulham. That's garbage. We coupled that with one away win until we played the two relegated sides at the end of the season.

It was grim. We didn't keep clean sheets. We looked pretty desperate and we stayed up because they others fell off a cliff and because we had Chris Wood.

Neither of those factors will help us this time, which is why we will go down- alongside the choice of manager not helping us

I'm literally on the fence with this one , never took much notice of him before so not really sure if i think it'll work out or not , probably leaning towards not as this season just seems to be unravelling but hopefully he'll surprise many of us.

Not a pressure question, but who would you have liked them to pick up the phone to and at least speak to?

Well for what it's worth the blokes certainly got the experience and importantly experience of the personalities of top players with their moods and egos. Also worked for EM before which I think counts for alot. The dice has been rolled so all we can hope for is that him and the players hit it off.

West Ham - Forest - Leeds - Palace - Spurs - Brighton
Any 1 from 6 to join Wolves and Burnley in the championship.
Probably go to the wire and Leeds v West Ham LAST match could be winner takes all OR loser is fucked. Depends how you look at it.
We are in the mix but got as much chance as any of the 6 to stay up.
Got to stay positive.......
