From what he is saying, don't hold your breath expecting our kids to get opportunities as things stand.

I agree with him in that the set up they have in Spain helps the bigger clubs produce quality youth, their reserves get to play a much higher standard of football each week but he can forget about it ever happening in England.

What we need is to find better loans for our youth if we want them to come up to scratch. Denayer to Sunderland is the type of loan we need to see more often.

I also agree that right now is not the best time to introduce youth in to the first team, its the point I was making in the Angus Gunn thread last week.

Good news on the loan front is that Girona are well placed to fight for promotion to La Liga which will be great given our close ties. Whilst I'm on Girona it seems Maffeo is thriving but Angelino is seemingly flopping, the latter hasn't made the first team squad yet and to make matters worse Girona brought in a new left back after they brought Angelino in on loan.

Agree that more 'appropriate' loans would be good.

Also a positive that Maffeo is doing well - although what is the standard of football there bearing in mind the seeming gulf between the Spanish top three/four and the rest?

On the subject of yoof getting its chance - unless there are injuries/massive losses of form etc what is the likelihood of KI72 featuring between now and May?

Don't really know what the standard is like but what I will say is I believe the standard in La Liga is a lot higher than its given credit for on these isles, you need only look at Spanish club's performance in Europe for evidence of that.

As for Iheanacho, I get the impression that Pep is not all that keen, I've noticed him looking exasperated with him at times. Kelechi is not helping himself recently either when he does get on, he may has well not have bothered coming on against Everton such was his anonymity.

The set up in Spain is different and at Barcelona the young players were brought up and coached from an early age to play in the same way as the first team and have higher skill levels so they made the transition to first team football more readily. His other point is about the nature of reserve team football in the UK - played in largely empty stadia as the tradition is different. The culture in Spain is clearly unite different given the support their reserves seem to attract. Not sure what it is like in Germany.

I think he feels the gap is too large at present (for most) and it could be damaging. Think of the stick an experienced player has been receiving of late.

Iheanacho's first touch has driven me to distraction at times so I can see why Pep gets frustrated. He has lost the ball in some tight situations (one of the goals vs Chelsea came from a misplaced pass of his way up by the Chelsea penalty area - might have been Willian's) and tht is a killer to the way Pep hs his team playing - vulnerable to counter attacks. The arrival of Gabriel Jesus might mean KI may not get much of a look in.

I would think of supporting Pep's idea if when sending out our loan players on loan they all went to Championship clubs, or to Scottish Premier clubs. Of course this is not the case so why do so many of our players end up outside the UK? If they can't cut the mustard in the Championship, then they should not be with us.

They're looking for loan deals that will aid their development JK, part of that is mixing it with the big boys so Scotland and the Championship would have that covered but they're also looking for coaches that play a certain way to help develop the technical side of our players game too which you'll find more in Europe than in Britain.

For example there's no point sending Manu Garcia to play midfield for most Championship clubs as the ball will likely just bypass him and he'll just have scraps from second balls to feed on, that won't aid his development.
