Our safety for our privacy

Fair deal? This is the new tag line that is flying around as they seek to justify spying on us. But there are threats out there that they need to stop somehow.

But would our safety even be an issue if it weren't for their actions in the first place? But I suppose that is academic now.

Are we heading for the dystopian 1984 society?

They need to be clear what they are looking at, how they are using the info, what they are using it for and how long, if at all, it is stored.

Trouble is you can't trust the feckers. The selling of our DVLA and NHS info is a disgrace

If you have nothing to hide, etc but...................

Indeed you did. I think they need to be clear with what they are looking at and for what purposes. Incidents like Lee Rigby and Charlie Hebdo need to be stopped before they get that far and the police and MI5 should be given the tools to do their jobs.

I think we am already sold down the river with this persoanl info stuff tbh, or a majority of it on us is obtained by comapnies etc regarding our personal info, i ay got much and nothing to hide apart from that blokes body buried,,,oops

Its a tricky subject Blackwood, I live in the US and they are security mad and for me most of it is to make people feel safe... Im not sure much of what they do is any sort of deterrence...

My worry is that any old joe soap can access your stuff in terms of surveillance... Thats one big problem and you'd like to think people in these positions of looking at your pictures or messages would show real responsibility but I dont trust the average person in a position with power and control like that...

Outright banning of Whatsapp and such and not putting it under surveillance is better but my opinion is terrorists will use something else...

Have you ever been through those TSA point in US Airports? What are they stopping? I think its to A) make you passive and B) to make people feel safe... Serves no purpose and if you opt out which I have done before you get the such an invasive pat down...

Im not under any illuson the Irish Government probably lets America do whatever it wants without telling the citizens... But I come from Ireland and we walk around without a care in the world they'd gain nothing launching an attack against us... So we have hardly any security in place and thats why Im highly against it...

Theres probably a tonne of shit the Government has done in Ireland that we're not really aware of to keep tabs but we dont fuck with other countries so we're doing alright... Not that we're not complicit in some stuff but we dont have an active real except in peacekeeping...

Jaysus I just started this convo with Blackwood in the other thread...

Lol, yeah I sorta stole the idea, I thought it deserved it's own thread away from Charlie

I saw a doco on the NSA recently, and the guy said they have so much info, they don't know what to do with it, like looking for needles in a haystack.

Nah was good thought on your part because I imagine the topic will soon pop up again... Unfortunately some people use these tragedies for their own gain and I feel Governments, unwittingly or not give themselves more power and control which can prevent citizens from taking action against things in the future...

Never watched that NSA doc although I hear its good another one which I never watch is one about the CIA... Might be called 'The Agency' although I may have made that up...

absolutely man, I don't think it's a convenient coincidence that the Government gets more control, perfect manipulation more like.

Yet more manufactured "terror threats" which the Gov use as an excuse to further strip away our freedoms, whipping up a media Muslim frenzy and before you know it you have usually placid individuals demanding the Gov do something to protect us from the menace that never was.

Some big brother tactics are less obvious, scrapping the Tax Disc will save £10,000,000 the Government have lost Billions in tax revenue since the prices started falling.

However scrapping the tax disc gives them the lever to Install ANPR camera all over the country on every motorway and every single A road, were all tagged we cant even go for a run without our data getting stored..................

Some argue its OK if you have nothing to hide, personally it dont matter if you have things to hide your getting recorded anyway.

I am very concerned tbh about all this privacy and recording our chats on internet etc cos quite a few times i have mentioned my mrs sisters tits and i would have given her one, i hope i am not blackmailed by the government to do secret service spy stuff specially over the middle east :10: :17:

Oh yeah i forgot the shootings were all planned by the governments weren't they!!

Take your tin foil hat off you complete loon

blackwood Juan no loon, am you alright dude cos just recently you really seem a bit snappy i have noticed, fair enough disagree with Juan but no need for the loon name calling, chill out a bit, there is a world wide knowledge about governments creating events to get laws changed etc, not saying this French attack was btw but more so some things that have happend over the years.

Do you reckon the Charlie Hebdo attack could be state sponsored then?
