Anyone watching the F1?

Massive race, with Lando Norris taking the championship lead and his team mate Piastri off form. Could be on for a British Champion. Three races to go after this, Norris leading, Piastri second. Verstappen 39 points further back but having to start at the back of the grid today
I don't follow F1 but Verstappen being miles behind is fantastic.

Not keen on rugby but noticed that England beat the mighty All Blacks.

Footage from the game suggested Boris Johnson had emerged as their new star, but that can't be right.

19 wickets in one days play is a shocking indictment on Test Cricket.

There was some good bowling on an heavily doctored pitch, but the standard of batting was abysmal
You're not wrong there, chief.

They may as well play 25 T20s and be done with any semblance of it being a true test of a batters determination, bravery, skill, technique and professionalism.

Obviously, it would be smashing to beat the convicts...but this ain't cricket, IMHO.

Then again, whats the point of a bowler destroying his body to hit 90mph or mangling their arms mastering wrist spin...when all they are, in t20, is cannon fodder.
May as well stick Merlin at the end of the wicket when the IPL loons start gurning in front of the camera and allow their Indian heroes to tee-off, over and over and over and over and over again.

If i wanted to watch the same result time and again, i'd get a court side seat at the NY Knicks.

Also, its a complete fraud that CA or the ECB sell tickets for the 4th day. We'll be lucky if the match sees COP tomorrow.

Agreed but it still doesn't detract from the overall drama as the day unfolded. Much better than a 300 / 3 day

I am afraid I am in the old school camp on this one.

I could sit and watch the cat and mouse play between a good bowler and batsman all day; unfortunately, those days have gone.

Some of the stuff from the English bowlers this morning has been pretty poor; consistently bowling short of a length on a pitch that is getting slower.

Every time one of them has bowled a full length delivery the batsman has played and missed; you would think the penny would drop.

The new stadium is pretty impressive but there is no Freemantle Doctor effect like at the WACA.

One less thing for the batsmen to think about

Looking back through the highlights; fuck me this was abysmal:

At least Pope attempted to move his feet towards the pitch of the ball; Brook and Root just waved their bats at the ball.

One day cricket malady

Won’t see day 3 this and the Aussie press will be fuckin insufferable. Sometimes I hate being a Pom over here

All that being said today could have been an entirely different day had England got Travis Head out early

The Ozzies showed weakness til then

But Travis Head bazball worked for them today. Clearly that appriacg is not their Plan A normally. But he stepped up today to do a job. The careful approach totally failing them in their first innings.

Something worth pointing out is England will now get hammered by Vaughan and co for not being selective with shots and playing bazball

Yet Travis Head has just gone out and used the exact same tactics to ENTIRELY shift the momentum of the game?

In fact he was far more attacking than anything the English batsmen showed.

205 runs at 7.3 runs per over!!! In a final innings on a pitch that looked tricky til then

The old fashioned careful.approach from Australia would have made 205 tough. Travis Head bazball won the game.

Lets see what Stokes says

I expect him to double down on the bazball approach

it was worse than abysmal really so many batsmen out in the same way. KP has been saying all week that modern batsmen lack the basic technique to play on any pitch that does anything slightly out of the ordinary because they grow up playing the crash bang wallop stuff. Anyway we can now move on to the main business of the day & see what we can do at Anfield

Bazball is nothing more than a fad and an admission that todays players lack the technique to play conventionally.

Could you have seen Bazball working againt the Australian team with Warne an McGrath in it, or the England side with Botham and Willis?

The Tests would have been even shorter in duration.

Its a nice theory though; go on the attack and put the opposition on the back foot, the only problem is the lack of skill always finds you out in the end.

Perhaps they should get Ange in some coaching capacity on a consultancy basis to help out, he should fit right in with them, "It's who we are mate"
