Correct - Max knew that if Lewis passed him at this point he would have the DRS advantage and would probably retake his position a few seconds later. The next bit is where you start to go wrong...
Lewis knew exactly what was happening and that if he stayed where he was, that he would have the DRS advantage. Staying where he was for a few seconds longer was a no brainer.
Max then jams the anchors on and I'm sure I've read somewhere that it was a braking force of 2.4 G's. That's over double the braking force required to carry out a successful, controlled emergency stop in a standard road vehicle. Not exactly a gentle lift on the accelerator and tap on the brakes to make room for his opponent.
It's seems quite clear to me that Max knew what he was doing and that if he took Lewis out he would have had an easier time in the last race because he wouldn't have to win it. I love hard racing and think it's great for the sport to see two talented drivers in equal cars going toe to toe around a circuit, but this was a clumsy attempt by Max to maximise his chances of winning the drivers title.
This is where Lewis is so good. Years of experience have shown him how to respond when pressured but also how to apply pressure that Max doesn't know how to deal with yet. Max is a brilliant instinctive race driver and if he hadn't been under so much pressure, and if he he couldn't see his chances slipping away from him I don't think he would have done this. However, he's young and will be the World Champion on merit, just hopefully not this year.
I'm looking forward to a hard fought, clean race. And a LH win.
