This was mentioned elsewhere (Specubollux thread I think) but this is some of the first solid evidence that I have found that other people have noticed a difference in how our transfer spending is reported compared to other (I.e. The rags).
This is from the comments section on the BBC article reporting Mendy's transfer. At the bottom of the page the BBC include a graphic listing the top ten Premier League signings based on the size of their fee.
There are nine paragraphs/sentences in the article. Two of them are actually about Mendy although even so one still mentions the transfer fee. The remaining parts of the article outline how much more expensive he was to acquire than Stones or Walker and then moves on to the potential for signing Danilo and Pep discussing possible other transfers.
This is one of the comments listed. Not a City fan but even neutral peopleare taking note of the difference in how these matters are reported.

"Man Utd spend £75m on a player "Fantastic, shows real ambition, they'll be challengers this year for sure"
Man City spend £52m "That's insane money, when will this madness stop?"
I don't like either club but there seems to be a real difference to how each clubs spends are treated."
True a lot of the remaining comments descend into the usual bickering coupled with people aghast at the bizarre amounts of money swirling around the PL but it is interesting to note that the message that when the rags spend their cash it is to 'improve the squad' and to 'challenge for trophies' when City spend their revenue within the bounds of ffp we are profligate and 'ruining football'
