Opposition Managers!

GoodoImp

Vital Newbie
I’m finding it more and more amusing how blinkered opposition managers are when Danny Cowley and Lincoln City are concerned! I went to Glanford Park today and have to say we played some very good football at times! Starting attacks from a Vickers pass! Frecklington and Chapman demanding the ball from the back 3!
I could go on I definitely saw a change in style!
I’ve just happened to read Scunthorpe managers comments on the game and surprise surprise his first comment was ‘we expected Lincoln to be direct and physical which they were’ This is simply not true!
Opposition managers are starting to embarrass themselves now whether it’s a friendly or a league game a defeat by Lincoln guarantees the usual pathetic excuse! I expect to hear it again numerous times next season but I suppose that means we would have won! Keep up the good work DC/NC

Why does it matter? What do you actually want, is it so necessary to receive praise from third parties? It's all a bit needy to me.

Anyone who watches ten minutes of independent football "analysis" on any channel knows full well that none of the ex pros and ex managers know what the holy ^*&^ they're talking about, so why put any faith in the immediate post match witterings of a man whose name I, for one, had to look up, and even then didn't have the faintest idea who the hell he is.

But ferchissakes if it upsets you stop looking for it, not everyone's going to tell you you're a pretty little thing.

Sorry for having an opinion! Il know better in future!

Your opinions, whatever they are, don't upset me.

What i can't understand is why you are offended when the opinion of someone with an interest in a rival club doesn't coincide with your own opinion, over a matter of opinion.

It is all perfectly understandable.

Twelve months ago, Grimsby were nervous about Lincoln coming up behind them, and feared they were about to be overtaken.

They were overtaken, and how!

Scunthorpe (ludicrously) have been Lincolnshire's top team for longer than they could ever have believed possible. Now it is their turn to be nervous. In spite of the absurd amounts of money being thrown away ad nauseam on a small town club, they are within our sights. It is only natural that their manager / their players / their journalists will clutch at any straw to attempt to deflect attention from what represents an inescapable shift in momentum in local football.

Only 1,149 people could be bothered to turn up to watch their team today, and even by the standards of a pre-season friendly, that is pretty poor. Perhaps the natural order is about to be restored.

At the end of the day we win lots we have huge crowds and everyone is getting behind and noticing LCFC. It's funny that our local rivals are realising that they will all soon be in our shadow. Let them think and say what they like. We know the truth and in The Cowleys we trust:wahey:

A guy at work is a Clownty fan, and when I have the misfortune of having to talk to him he can hardly hide his contempt for all things LCFC, especially our playing style. He throws around terms like "thugs, bullies and hoofball" whilst maintaining that Clownty are some sort of lower league Barcelona.
My point is that our "reputation" goes before us, but I do feel that many an opposition manager and fan will be eating humble pie once we play them this year.
Who knows one or two may even have to admit that Frecklington, Andrade, Pett, O'Connor, Bostwick and the rest can all actually play a bit....

Hmmm, not sure I like the sound of this coming from Lincoln fans, all sounds a bit Charlie Big Potatoes. We’ll see how ‘big’ a club we are when we have a bad run and/or when the Cowleys leave.

Couldn't agree more, it's a meaningless friendly we played yesterday, no points, no bragging rites, nothing, just a runout for a number of players to give them game time. If anyone thinks this is any sort of sign then they need to have a word with themselves, next week matters, I doubt the scunny manager gives a toss what the result was. If yesterday means anything what about all the ones we've lost? Does that make us favourite for relegation? No course it doesn't. As for opposition managers I reckon he's got under our skin saying what he did rather than vice versa. Pointless thread IMO sorry.

Reputation counts for something, your colleague probably still channels the ghost of Jimmy Sirrell when he's watching County's Allardyce-lite tactics.

What's inescapable is that, in my lifetime, most of the modest success the club has had has been through what we would call direct football: Taylor, Murphy (2nd time round), Beck, Alexander, Cowley...

Whereas more, shall we say, silky styles have been notable by being relatively unsuccessful (though not completely): Herd, Clarke, Buckley, Schofield....

That's completely accidental but clubs get labelled don't they? There's meant to be a West Ham way and Everton is the School of Science. It's all BS.

My point was really highlighting opposing managers attitude towards Lincoln over the previous months not just Scunthorpe yesterday! I’m probably a bit old school and don’t like the excuse culture!
As for pointless thread if it’s your opinion surely you don’t have to say sorry!

No posts or threads are pointless.
The more members post on vitals the more money City get, so keep posting everyone.

But what have we actually lost by being Billy Big Testicles? Should we stay humble whilst we're on the crest of an unprecedented wave or shout it from the rooftops that we're doing well, thank you very much, whilst we can?

I'm leaning towards the latter after so many thin years. A pessimist is never disappointed, I admit, but I want more days of elation and optimism.

Besides which, we can't just assume that the wheels will drop off when the Cowleys leave, especially if we have learned their lessons of inclusivity. We shall see.

Goodoimp, firstly my apologies, it wasn't a dig at you but it probably looks like it was in hindsight. We keep getting these posts about how great we are, how we're bigger than so n so because of our crowds and how everyone is jealous. Sorry not buying it, 3 seasons ago we were dead n buried going nowhere playing kick n rush football in front of 2000 fans, the Cowleys came, they saw, they conquered, believe me we could go right back down there if they went and another poor appointment was made. We need a lot more success before we can start thinking we've made it.

I hope when the season starts we get slagged off every week by the opposition managers. Because it will mean that we are beating the opposition. The only time, apart from the odd exception, that an opposing Manager will say nice things about you is when they have beaten you. Keep the moaning and bitching coming our way it will mean we our being successful.
