On This Day

On this day (July 20), Tottenham Hotspur secured a famous 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the 1901 FA Cup Final replay, and in more recent history, officially appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new manager to lead the squad's modern era.

And sacked him two years later !

Known as "The Ghost" due to his elusive movement, he was a key figure in the iconic 1960-61 "Double" winning side.

What I remember of the day was that I was out with mates of the time mucking about with homemade/built go-carts/trolley's, remember them, when a mate ran up and told us all! of the sad happening! R.I.P the Ghost! that is John White.. 🥃 Cheers Walt...COYS
 
On this day in 2005, Tottenham Hotspur agreed to a £1 million deal to sign 18-year-old winger Aaron Lennon from Leeds United.
Lennon arrived at White Hart Lane having already become the youngest player ever to appear in the Premier League (at 16 years and 129 days). Over a highly successful decade in north London, he made 364 appearances, scored 30 goals, and was a key figure in the squad that secured memorable Champions League finishes.

Eriksen being a notable exception

Eric was a great buy, Lamela had a few special moments ...at least he tried and knew where the goal was even though his aim was not tops! but as for soldouto....what a humdinger purchase eh!
 
Another day when fuck all actually happened , except that it was this day that the Terry Venables takeover , paying Irvin’s Scholar just over 7 million pounds for control of the club , was made official .
 
All seems quiet in the club at the moment , and it was the same in its history as well

Except for the fact that we had a bit of a Jack of all Trades, who only needed a broom up his arse for the complete bloke to have around .

He was probably the only bloke in history who could pick himself , organise himself , put himself on the transfer list or basically turn up in the morning and do what the fuck he wanted to do.

Tottenham recorded one of their largest ever scorelines during a summer tour, defeating the Saskatchewan FA XI 18–1 in Saskatoon, with Sid McClellan scoring nine goals.

And in 1963: The club's pre-season tour to South Africa kicked off with a 5–1 victory over a NSAFL Invitation XI in Cape Town.
 
On July 27th in Tottenham Hotspur history, notable events include former player Fanny Walden umpiring a Test cricket match in 1936, a 3-1 pre-season friendly win against Shelbourne in 1991, legendary goalkeeper Pat Jennings playing the final senior match of his career in 1986, and a 3-2 pre-season win over Vissel Kobe in 2024
 
Mind you , it was difficult not to give a standing ovation , as there were no seats !


The legendary Anfield crowd famously gave opposing goalkeeper Pat Jennings (referred to playfully or colloquially in memory as 'Oaf') a warm standing ovation as a mark of respect for his incredible goalkeeping. This was part of a long-standing Anfield tradition of applaud opposition goalkeepers after masterclass performances—such as the famous match where he saved multiple penalties against Liverpool
