1938 – Ted Ditchburn Signs: Legendary goalkeeper Ted Ditchburn officially signed with Tottenham Hotspur as an amateur.
A talented schoolboy boxer, he eventually chose football and went on to make 452 first-team appearances for Spurs, serving as the back-bone goalkeeper for Arthur Rowe's famous "push-and-run" title-winning team of 1950–51.

It is also the day Sonny signed for us , bizarrely it is also his birthday as well as Robbie Keane

In the first game of the season Spurs beat Everton 2-0, not 2-1 as the article says! It was 0-0 at HT.
And the first dropped points was the result of a 1-1 draw with City at home, not 2-2. It was a Wednesday night game.

I was fortunate enough to meet her, I will call her a Lady, twice, the Lady was so open n gentle but strong! I will always remember her saying quote "we all have opinions rightly or wrongly but that is the basics of Freedom of Speech"

Today is a quirky day , in that it is the day than Son was born , but his” official birthday “ was last week .

There is no other rapturous news , other than a team of decorators turned up to paint the floodlights pylons and metal railings around the pitch in 1957

A pre-season opening victory over Stevenage Borough. These early games are set up to give some young players an opportunity and are a gentle stroll to fitness for the experienced professionals. Spurs scored eight while conceding one. Poyet managed three, too youngsters, Ferguson and Kamanan scored two each, their moment in the spotlight. But who scored the eighth goal? Those who were there were fortunate to witness the only successful strike of the player who some saw as a ‘folk’ hero. It became embarrassing at WHL as every time he got the ball and approached goal, some sections of the crowd screamed ‘ssshhhoooottt’. The scorer was none other that the German midfield player signed by George Graham, Steffan Freund. He had some near misses in his career at Spurs but never managed to score a meaningful goal
 
On this day , July 14 th ……

1974: Midfielder Neil McNab signed for Spurs from Morton. At just 16 years old, he was too young to sign a professional contract, initially registering as an amateur.
He holds the unique distinction of being both the first 16-year-old and the final amateur to ever play in a Tottenham League side.


1976: Legendary manager Keith Burkinshaw officially took over the managerial hotseat. He went on to take charge of 429 matches, winning two FA Cups (1981, 1982) and famously lifting the UEFA Cup in his final game in 1984.

A notable moment for the Club off the pitch as our new East Stand was officially opened for the visit of Aston Villa on September 22 - 5,100 seats and 18,700 terrace spaces increased the capacity to nearly 80,000. Our photo shows work in progress in 1932

A chap known as “Greaves was the Greatest” would one day grace the terraces here

Always just under the camera stand in the middle ...so my mates and I could barrack the likes of Brian Moore as they stupidly hung a mike down a few feet from the camera platform !
 
On this day in Tottenham Hotspur history, the club secured one of its most exciting modern transfers when it signed French international David Ginola from Newcastle United in 1997.
Known for his incredible flair and creativity, Ginola quickly became a fan favourite , dazzling supporters with his pure footballing skills .

We paid 2-5 million for him!!!


Revered by fans for his flair and silky skills, the "magician" went on to make 127 appearances for Spurs, winning the 1999 League Cup and the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in 1999.
 
On July 17, 2021, Nuno Espírito Santo took charge of his very first match as Tottenham manager, resulting in a 1-1 pre-season draw against Leyton Orient. The friendly, played in memory of the late Justin Edinburgh, saw 17-year-old Dane Scarlett score Spurs' goal. [1]
Additionally, July 17 marks the birth of "The Duke" (Len Duquemin) in 1924, a legendary centre-forward who played a pivotal role in the famous 'Push and Run' side that secured the 1951 League Championship

On this day in Spurs history in 2012, beloved club legend Ledley King was forced to retire from professional football at the age of 31 due to chronic knee injuries. The central defender, who spent his entire career at Tottenham, transitioned directly into an ambassadorial role.

Former England defender Ledley King has retired aged 31 due to chronic injuries but will remain at his only professional club, Tottenham Hotspur FC, in an "ambassadorial capacity".

Former England defender Ledley King has retired from football aged 31 but will remain at his only professional club, Tottenham Hotspur FC, in an "ambassadorial capacity".
King has been at Spurs since joining aged 14 in 1996 and made his debut three years later. However, in recent seasons his appearances and ability to train have been hampered by chronic knee problems, among other injuries, which have now forced him to give up the game. He made 323 appearances, helping them win the 2008 League Cup, and although he only scored 14 goals, his first just 9.7 seconds in against Bradford City AFC in December 2000 remains the Premier League's quickest.

Capped 21 times by England, including at UEFA EURO 2004 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, King said: "I know that being a one-club man is a rarity these days, but I have always enjoyed being part of the setup here and the challenge of putting this club up with the elite where it should be.
"I would like to say thank you to everyone at the club and to the fans. I have missed a lot of football over the years, but the Spurs fans have always been patient and incredibly supportive with me during difficult periods. Sadly my injuries and inability to train have now finally brought an end to my career."
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, whose team enter the UEFA Europa League in the group stage, added: "It is in an ambassadorial capacity that Ledley will continue, playing a crucial role in supporting the club's work in the community and the ongoing regeneration of the Tottenham area, whilst also being a hugely positive role model for our younger players."
