Olympiacos Vs Nottingham Forest sponsored by Kaiser Chiefs

Honestly I would prefer 2 quality defensive centre backs together

Where one doesn't have to carry the other

If we aren't playing 3 together at the back

It's hard enough at EPL level for a centre back just to do their own job well enough

But we have to make allowances all of the time ?
people carry murillo? seriously? hes prretty much been doing the job of 3 defenders and he's under rated cos he missed a few headers or out of position here and there? (along with the people not cutting the cross out, the otherrs missing the headers and the keeper watching the ball go past him)

at home we want more attacking players on the pitch, so an extra attacking midfilder is probably better than an attacking wb
Our home record when we've tried that is so poor though

We concede too many

And the extra threat aina and Williams can give as wingbacks is noticeable imo

Aina can go past full backs better than our wingers when he's license to get forward

Like I said yesterday, beating Olympiakos is a big moment for Forest. It's only a friendly, but the Marinakis project has always been about making Forest better than Olympiacos because the PL is where the money and prestige is.

Last night demonstrated that we have finally overtaken them in terms of quality on the pitch.

Can throw in villareal too into the equation.

We don't look out of place no more.

been tricky picking the best forest defensive asset for fpl. i think aina is our best defender but he has CHO in front of him so maybe Wlliams will get the ball in the box more often directly. (i still dont like elanga on the right) . Also, if we rotate wing backs we might swap them after an hour or so and bank clean sheets early which the cb's wont do.

Wolfie, do you feel Murillo could play as a full back in a 4? He is very capable of sweeping around the centre halfs when required as well as bombing on occasionally.

p.s for years i was a back 3 fan as i saw it as more attacking... that doesnt seem to be borne out stats wise and general concensus tho so I'm more on the fence with it. if its an extra cb or an anderson in midfield tho.. then im gonna go with the anderson i imagine

Yes, but Murrillo aside, what to you think the best line up would be if we want to make the most of the talent we have?

To me, that means playing a back 4 with the extra midfield player
A fluid 5-4-1 as below is a suggestion

It's strong ish defensively but can be fluid enough to be attacking as well IMO

5 at back with 2 of aina, Williams and murillo license to support attacking when we have the ball depending where it is

Sangare, dominguez, Yates, danilo and Anderson (2 of) either side of MGW but not winger wide

MGW centre mid bit deeper than past (maybe Anderson can even cover/replace him a bit)

CHO or Elanga (1 of) giving width in midfield - cho probably has to play left when he's on. Elanga can switch wings when he's on.

New players wait and see how they fit in above

I dont know

But we all know his major strengths are on the ball and going forward with it

So I just don't see him as a centre back in 2 at the back

I CAN see him as a centre back in back 3

We talk about him getting out of position a lot etc and needing a good talking centre back next to him telling him what to do

Milos job apparently

Let's be honest that good talking centre back should be telling him don't even think about going into oppositions half !!

Same as he's controlling our full backs who are better going forward than defending

Which just nullifies Murillos assets to us

No. Murilllo is a CB. Do not judge him on warm up games. He is rusty, off the pace and adrenaline hasn’t kicked in. Judge him after three games with Milo alongside.
Ok

I'm telling you now he won't work out though in a back 2 even with Milo!

We will concede too many and he will be restricted too much

And I've said why in my post above

And will that be Milos fault?

Agreed, we were the better team against Villereal and they finished 8th in La Liga. Staple La Liga top halfers. Doesn't matter that it's at home, half our games will be.

We look good. Credit to the manager. Looks like we are partly going for the Ireola model of very high press and pouncing

someone suggested to me that he struggled after some intensive training sessions, so maybe just not fit enough.. He only played a few first team games over there so i guess thats possible
Just the intensity and level of training keepers do for EPL will be a total shock to him and his body

He's 26 years old but with a 17 year olds level of goalkeeping experience and without the benefit of years of top level goalkeeper training as well that you would get in Europe

I'm putting this down as one of our strangest signings ever tbh

And I'm surprised anyone else is surprised he's not slotted right in to the team

Nobody else is ‘surprised’ in fairness. Just withholding opinion at present.

didn't get a chance to say but what was interesting yesterday was that the police were as nice as pie- lots of enjoy the football. this is not normal at the football. olympiacos is normally very intimidating place but it was clear maranakis had had a word to treat forest fans with kid gloves.

the ultras must have also been told because normally they are very aggressive. however, maranakis knows there would be consequences if there was any trouble.

poor old gavros don't quite know what to do with forest lmao

the media here was laughable- they edited the highlights to make out it was close. it wasn't, they got battered.

I realise this might not mean much to most but for anyone with a Greek connection it has been hilarious.

best preseason eva

They'd just brought that striker on (he was really tall), Murillo had signalled to come off & it was a good cross.

We gave the ball away cheaply, as we did for their other goals - so more than Murillo at fault for that one.

Sangare looks a different player & the signing of Anderson looks better & better!

We were far better than Oly, then brought on CHO, Danillo & Elanga (for Sangare, MGW & Dominguez) and they could not deal with the 2 wingers.

At 4-1 we were coasting and whilst we did concede 2 more, the changes disrupted all of our play in midfield & defence.

Scored 4 away from home, could have been more and I'd say Nuno has a selection headache - which is real progress!

at 70mins you had the feeling that maranakis asked nuno to go easy on them. they had already been humiliated.

a few days before they were talking big, having had a good preseason before they met us.
