What year was the demolition of the old railway end? I’ve no recollection of it and suspect it wasn’t there for my first match in 1990. I remember the old South Park stand being there then, though I think probably officially closed, as there were a handful of people dotted around at most. I remember the Stacey West being the new stand but seem to think it wasn’t completed/opened when I first attended. It might have been, memory gets a bit sketchy. Does anyone know when the Stacey West was officially opened?

I was at that one and the game v Hereford where the gate was fractionally higher. I don’t remember us hitting the woodwork though?
The coldest I can ever remember being was at the 9-0 v Bournemouth in Dec 82. How on earth that wasn’t abandoned due to a frozen pitch I’ll never know, but thank goodness it wasn’t.

I was at that game too. Never seen the West Bank almost empty like that night. Stood in the curve of a packed Railway End to see our already fading hopes demolished by a rampant Newport. A miserable night all round.

Remember the match well. We were 3-0 down at half time, so, bearing in mind we never left before the final whistle, my Dad turned his drenched face to mine and said "Shall we go home?". We ran up the road in the pouring rain towards South Park and headed for the car parked on the road at the bottom of the common.

Well, I'll own up to not being there as it was during the years when I couldn't get to midweek games.
Having looked up the details, Ernie Moss made his debut for the Imps in place of Gordon Hobson who was injured and Gordon Simmonite returned after suspension at right back with David Carr dropping to the bench.
It was actually midfielder Steve Lowndes who scored twice for Newport along with Tynan who got the first goal after seven minutes. Lowndes scored, then Tynan put them 3-0 up just before the break. Lowndes took advantage of City mistakes to score his second goal midway through the second half and a late goal from Derek Bell was only a consolation. Colin Murphy described the performance as “A catalogue of schoolboy errors.”
Attendance was 4,742.
The result saw Newport go above City into second place as the Imps dropped from fourth to fifth, three points off a promotion place.

The Railway End was last used for the friendly match with Moscow Torpedo on 19th February 1990 and was demolished soon afterwards.
The Stacey West Stand was opened in August 1990.
The South Park stand was last used for the game Against Aldershot on 13 January 1990. It was demolished soon afterwards.
The new South Park stand was opened in time for the 1992/93 season.

I went to that game too. If memory serves me correct it was stormin Lormers debut and a goal too. What I do clearly recall was Cwis Ashtons epic attempt and pronouncing the Torpedo team. We were in absolute stitches.

I remember when we played Everton in the League Cup in 1993 he chickened out of saying Radosavljevic and announced him by his nickname of Preki.

My memory could be wrong but the new stand opened in a 1990 pre-season Yorkshire & Humberside cup game (remember that), v Leeds. May have been the game Sean Dunphy got injured in.

No idea if it was the opening game for the stand but do know that Vinnie Jones was in the Leeds side for the game. Was it a 3-1 defeat? Certainly over 4,000 in the Bank for that one.

Lost 4-0 and the attendance was 4,661 (Thanks to the Nannestads' book).
There'd been a home match against Hull three days earlier in the same cup but I don't know without further research if the stand was in use for that.
