Old Photos of Sincil Bank

A view of the North West corner of the West Bank and the Railway Terrace, taken from the footbridge over the Sincil Dyke (Drain) from the end of Sewell's Walk. It's amazing what the current custodians of Lincoln City FC are doing for Sincil Bank, but credit must also be given to those in the late 1980s, early 1990s for what they did to transform the ground from the dreary, dilapidated and derelict state that it had become to something we could be proud of. Since this photo was taken The Bank has been transformed out of all recognition. Thank you to all concerned.

I understood where this was taken from, but couldn't initially make sense of what I was looking at, then realised that it was the Common that was visible above the stadium. Can't really remember noticing that, but I suppose we just took it for granted that it was there. Have to say I can't really remember noticing that the new stand completely obscured that view either!! Having said that, we would always walk down Sincil Bank from the bus stops on St Mary's Street, and maybe would not have seen anything from that angle anyway, so good to see this view

I am reasonably confident I remember on occasions, a few fans seeming to be watching the game from the South Common, prior to the St.Andrews stand being re-developed.

You also have to bear in mind that until a few years before that photo the railway bridge would have obscured the view of the South Common from the footbridge. Also from that viewpoint the old South Park stand would have been in the way as well.

Can’t remember seeing fans on the common, but up till the new St Andrews went up, there were always firemen getting a perfect view from the top of the store behind the south east corner. The building is still there but no view nowadays!

I remember the firemen being up there, and of course the trains stopping on top of the embankment. Seems everyone was after a free view, and that includes David Sunley and Graham Watson who watched every game from the pitch.

When The Imps played Newcastle in Alan Shearer's first game for them I couldnt afford the cost of a ticket, so I and quite a few people stood at the top of The Common to see it. We couldn't see much, but anything was better than nothing.

Some good memories, and interesting tales on this thread.

My first match was in the old South Park stand with my Dad and I have at various times watched the mighty Imps play from every side of Sincil Bank. Now firmly ensconced in the Echo/Greenlinc stand.

Why the Echo? Because there is more legroom and the view towards the GMB (and the 617 and new screen) is way better than the view from the GMB towards the Echo. Better to be in the carbuncle than have to look at it.

Nice for the old blokes to wallow in nostalgia (or neuralgia for some). It must annoy the hell out of our younger posters.
