Official and Unofficial January 2023 Transfer Window

With the window closing and assuming no deterioration in Forests league position, I foresee a return to Forests Murphy type strategy for the next window. Yes we have a few areas to strengthen and loans to replace or make permanent but strategic direction should be to buy young value added players. More team members like BJ, MGW and Danilo. Shelvey, Wood, Felipe signings have their purpose but we need to be building longterm. Before all this we have a dozen players who’s contract is due up or need to move on. Between now and June we must have discussions about moving players on to make way for arrivals.

With Liam O'Brien, I notice that the transfer window in Croatia is still open. Why not ask him if he would not mind moving to Zagreb, and playing for Dinamo as part of some complex deal to get Livakovic at the end of the season? I know I would take that one for the team- Zagreb is very nice. Though not as nice as Split, and playing for Hajduk in the Poljud, one of the best stadia in Europe when under its floodlights.

I'm also a big fan of Croatia. However, I think we must have taken a look at Livakovic and decided against. He might be one of these players for whom it all just comes together for one fantastic World Cup. A lot of the Croatia supporters before the tournament were saying he was their weak link. There is a great video you can find on YouTube of Modric sitting down with Livakovic and building up his confidence before the WC.

The idea of sending players there though is not a bad one. OK, the Croatia league might be a bit too much of a step down in quality for LO'B, but Croatia has some of the best coaches around and Dinamo is one of the most successful centres for youth development worldwide. Dani Olmo, for example, left Spain to go to Dinamo and ended up in the Spanish national team.

We’ve allegedly activated a £15m obligation to buy deal for Chris Wood after he made THREE starts!! … On a one year deal!!… I simply cannot believe that can be true. You wouldn’t pay £15m for a 1 year deal for a top player, let alone Wood. Surely forest haven’t negotiated that badly?

£15m is probably wide of the mark, probably more like £12m. There will be a reason for it. Highly unlikely to be one year

It's now up to Wood to go out and tear into defenders, maybe chip in with a couple of goals. He's been poor so far, but I always rated him. Perhaps it's a confidence issue, and the signing might help him with that. Worth remembering (as we say with so many young players) the price tag isn't his fault.

Didn't Newcastle sign him for more?

although I don't disagree, Croatian football has had a bad 12mths starting with the killing of a Greek lad and riot. some of the better players left the league.

still a gem or there I'm sure.
