Good Morning Thread

Drink lots of white tea, that does not mean with milk! . white tea is harvested when the bud is just opening so many detox benefits as the goodness has not been used to develop the plant, plus daily turmeric as well.....as llong as it has black pepper combined to enable/enhance your stomach to process it! We have seen the benefits of starting this 5 years ago!

Am with USAF there 80, all that is written is most certainly true.

Retiring from my military days haha! the main thing that really still come's to mind when my final day was done, it was, just imagine this after all them years of being looked after, your Out! your standing outside the gate, a suitcase in both hands of all your worldly military service belongings inside, you stand there having a think! and you say to yourself "what the fcuk am I going to do now!" lol! you answer I have a family that is depending on me, so holiday first, a good think n discussion with the missus, because do not forget it is all change for her also, and then get back on the ride that is work/life, I have never looked back with regrets.

Though I am a spouse Carer now, proud to do it and its most certainly not a job to look down upon, am also retired from work, as in running my own/our business, I awake every morning looking forward to what's install for me, incl Mrs PY, that day.

As you know I have a major interest in wildlife/birds and the rescuing of Dogs, which is so fulfilling, thus with my weight training/bike work outs my day is quite full, but must not forget watching my/our team Spurs., whether it be live or on tv.

You wrote about anagrams n crossword, one of my fave past times, I do the Express n local Evening News Cryptic crosswords everyday/evening, yes there are more difficult ones, but those two still at times fcuk me up lol! it does keep the brain active.

Pompey, I hear you brother! I have 2 years to go...but yeah the post military life is going to be kind of scary. I often talk to my wife about anxiety simply because this is all I have done my whole life. (I mean my closet is all uniforms! LOL...I am going to need a whole new set of clothes)

But like you I have started diving into passions of mine to ease the strain...nature, wildlife are loves of mine. (I have often said that I would get in trouble some day for swerving to miss a squirrel while driving simply because I would rather hit a dipshit human than an animal!) I have stopped on busy interstates to save turtles that are struggling to get across! Don't know why...I just have a soft heart for all animals.

Like 80 said gardening...I do kind of have a green thumb for that...I do enjoy managing our flower garden and yard. (though summers here in Louisiana...SUCK)

For me the biggest stress is just the not knowing what will happen next after I retire...I am a planner at heart...so the unknown bothers me and pisses me off.

Are you going to stay in Louisiana?

USAF, I have to say I was ditto your unknown bothers me and pisses me off, so that's where the bloody holiday first comes in, chill, relax, get pissed with the missus, chat about the future, cos like I said its a big change of life style for her also, having you about 100% lol! plus remember any worries by her of you are gone, you will do it no worries, you, know matter what have the positive military teaching/training in you that you will never lose.

You describing yourself swerving so as not to harm a Squirrel another ditto there mate, I am the same, If we had Turtles here again I would do the same, mind have done it loads of times for Duck n babies, Wild boar, Deer and Ponies in the New Forest, nature and its critturs deserve our respect.

Anyway like I said previously you will get there, I can guarantee that.
All the best for your future brother.

Depends...I will have job opportunities for sure here...though I would love to move...so guess we will find out.

So since I am handing out advice left right and center, figure out what you want to do that's really a passion, like being outdoors in the woods, move to where you can walk out your door to do it, and then find something other things to keep you busy. in that area Friends matter too. But you're young enough to make friends who do what you like to do.

Zion is on my list. That area looks incredible.

Yep I am weighing all of that...our 'glideslope' is a bit different than most folks, since we don't have kids. We are thinking I will optimally have to work 5-8 more years to financially get where I want to be.

So my main questions I am thinking over is do I prioritize the money or the location first. Right now I will probably take a job first here locally unless offered something comparable somewhere else...and keep looking throughout.

Oh well...exciting times to come...and scary.

I'm really going to have to change my way of life when I retire. All of these things that '80 and PY etc have mentioned are not on my "to do list". I hate gardening because I don't have the stamina to trim bushes and pull weeds. My asthma is that bad! I can't go for walks as I get out of breath very quickly, although I do try. My resting heart rate is 90 so it doesn't take much to get it to 140. I take so many meds which have a negative mental effect in motivation.

I'm overweight due to taking steroids every day to stay alive. My body no longer makes natural steroid as I've been taking it orally for 35 years every day (doctors orders). I have 3 days to live if I stop taking them. This has caused type 2 diabetes, hypertension etc.

I know, I know. I can hear y'all saying I have to eat organic, exercise and stimulate my mind. Let me tell you, when you feel like I do each day, it's so much easier said than done.
Do you remember years ago when we all lived healthily , ate the right foods , did the right things , went to bed early , got up early ,
Gave ourselves a chance of living to an old age ………. Well these are those years !!!
THought for the day.....once you hit 50 it's all repairs and maintenance.

Hilarious Walt.

I always said to my wife, back when we got married, that my goal is to walk hand in hand with her along the beach at the age of 75. Back in 2008 the specialists gave me approx 5 years to live and I've clung to and focused on our goal since that horrible news.

Stuff them I say.

Do you have allotments in your part of the world or are your gardens big enough .
Growing your own food is second to none . The buzz I get from what we do is amazing .
My wife plants the seeds , grows them on , transplants them into bigger pots , hands them over to me , and if I haven’t prepared the ground in advance I’m in trouble .
There is more planning and joy in all of that that I can say .
The taste of our own produce is second to none .

Looking after my daughters 4 kids for 4 days to give the parents a post deep lockdown break....and we have not seen them for over a year now.....pre covid when we went to stay we did sports and activities with the kids all the time. Played board games had meals together chatted..went out, fresh air, got them tired so they slept well...as we did when we brought our three up eons ago!

How lockdown has changed them....lethargic, sleep patterns to shit, all they want to do is nothing but play games on the computers ...addicted I would say, ...trying to re-educate them back again, but is it worth it for 4 days of aggro and growly faces....it is enough to get them to come and all eat together!

Gonna be having serious words with their parents today when they return.....absolutely gobsmacked how the happy grandkids we remember have changed into moody non communicative beings.

Anyone else noticed serious changes in kids behaviours over this horrible viral period?

Greavsie, it's a new generation of kids. They average too much time on their devices, which really damages their ability to have a decent conversation and if/when you do, they seem limited in what they can contribute.

Although it is society, technology and their peers that have made them this way, I still blame my self for allowing it to manifest under my watch. It's only my 15 y.o son that falls into that category. The other 6 are older and better conversationalists but still effected by technology in a negative way.

Jesus Hoddle, what you trying to say? get up n go man! you can do it, and I do agree it probably is easier said than done, baby steps mate, lets get that confidence back, stop the negativity, I/we know you can do it.

Thanks PY. That means a lot.

I know I can do it too, but actually doing it is easier some days than others. I try to omit positivity, and as I said, I have my good and not so good days.

I must admit, I loved my life pre Covid as 1 month I'd travel to Port Moresby, then the next month to Lae, PNG....so 12 trips per year to PNG. Every now and then I travel to Vanuatu, which is simply breath taking. My life was flying business class, staying in 6 star hotels, having my own butler and being treated like a king. 12 years of it and not once did I ever take it for granted.

I've really regressed since our Gov't imposed an international travel ban. Even after 80% of Australians are vaccinated, there is still no road map as to what the plan is for business travel throughout the south pacific region.

Sorry for the depressing post peeps. I still live in the best country and the best city in the world IMO. We have an area called Southbank Parklands, right in the heart of Brisbane. A beautiful man made beach surrounded by cafe's restaurants and modern art museums etc. See 2nd pic below.

What kind of steroids are you on? I've been on them since I was 5 for asthma. And I still am. It controls it.

The mental side of exercising is just as important. Start with a 1K walk every weekday morning. Slowly increase it to 5k. No iPod or any sort of music or input. Just focus on your walking pace. Also, lift weights 3-4 times a week to get your bone density back up from the damage the steroids have caused.

Measure your walking route so it gets easier to track your pace. Use a smartwatch if you have one. Your goal should be 5K rain, shine, or snow within 16 months.

Here is the only weight set you need: https://www.amazon.ca/OGODU-Adjusta...ords=adjustable+weights&qid=1623669712&sr=8-8

You are what you eat. If you are eating the wrong things DON'T BUY THEM AND BRING THEM INTO THE HOUSE. It takes at least two years to change things.

Your existing habits follow you into the next stage of your life.

Stop making excuses. Only you can change things.

So true 80'.

I'm taking prednisolone (10mg) every day, however, back in 1988 the docs prescribed 25mg per day, every day. This was before the real side effects of pred were known. So I took 25mg every day for about 15 years, without any weight gain, then BANG! I crashed an off road buggy and banged myself up, then basically overnight the effects of years on pred finally showed its ugly face and I piled on weight overnight without changing my lifestyle.

I can't walk in the mornings as I sweat so much that when I shower after exercise I sweat for hours. But I must start walking again in the evening. I guess this will help with my sleep and metabolism etc. I swim a lot during the warmer months which is about 8 months of the year. Usually do a few klms in laps at night and during the days on weekends. Our pool is only 11m x 4.8 but it does the job.

Thanks for the motivation 80'. I'm sorry to hear about your asthma. What steroids are you taking?
For my asthma, I also get 2 injections of a drug named Xolair every 2 weeks. Thank God the Govt subsidizes this are they are $2000 per shot, i.e $8000 per month.

I do have days when I take carrots, celery and cucumber to work, along with a few cashews, almonds and walnuts. I just don't seem to have the energy to prepare this every day as I don't sleep well. I sleep with a CPAP machine every night, but have insomnia as well as sleep apnea.

Now I'm boring everyone so I'll shut up.

Mate, I really do appreciate the uplifting words and the encouragement to make changes. Thanks 80'. Look after yourself.

Good morning all . The weather again is beautiful in Walt land this morning.
Reading all the above , the effects of Covid are far more reaching and damaging than is being reported.
The daily briefings are bad enough , but it is going far further than that .

Greavsie , we had a similar experience to you with two of our grandchildren last year when on the school summer holidays .
Both parents work full time , and when they need someone in to look after them during the day, they have a perfectly good Rota where no one ( grandparents , friends etc ) are “used” more than anybody else .
We wanted to have them at our place so we could take them out . although there wasn’t much open , obviously .
They insisted on staying at home , so we went round to their house .
They were 10 ( girl )and 7 ( boy) ….. we didn’t see them all day . We got there at nine o clock , they came down from their bedrooms , said hello , hugs and all that , went back upstairs on their laptops , games etc ,….. came down for lunch , and went back up until our daughter came home at around 3-30. …….. we were bored stiff …… Luckily they had sky sports !

Hod , mate , I am so sorry about your conditions . I don’t really know what to say , anything I do say isn’t really going to help .
Mate …. You give everyone on here your best wishes all the time .
I can only say that when you have sent your wishes , prayers and thoughts to my wife and me over our “ troubles “ it HAS REALLY HELPED .
I mean that , sincerely .

When people on here are concerned and send messages of support , it means so much more than I can say .

Ex , RD ,with their DMs ,…. Greavsie , 80, Pompey , Nick , 54, US .,Vinnie, SE , , everyone ….. the list goes on and on , wonderful thoughts from wonderful people .

So I’m sending my heartfelt support to you so that you may find a way forward and out of the situations you are in .

“I aint got a solution mate , but I admire your problem . “

I had that on my desk when I was at work , it’s in my garage now , takes pride of place and helps when I have got a problem , it makes me smile .

Something else that makes me smile are two thoughts

When a woman walks down the garden and there is a football that has been left on the lawn , she will walk past it .
A man will always kick it .!

We know when we are getting older , as men , when we walk around a puddle instead of walking through it .

We have such a diverse community on here it really helps in so many ways , it has helped us that’s for sure .
I love the genuineness of it all .
Am I waffling now ?
not like me !
Take care all , look after each other.

Worse things happen at sea ,…. as my dear old grandad always said ! …… fuck being out there .

Saw this today on LinkedIn. Immediately thought of The Good Morning thread :-)

An Airbus 380 is on its way across the Atlantic. It flies consistently at 800 km/h in 30,000 feet, when suddenly a Eurofighter with Tempo Mach 2 appears.
The pilot of the fighter jet slows down, flies alongside the Airbus and greets the pilot of the passenger plane by radio: "Airbus flight, boring flight isn’t it? Take care and have a look here!”
He rolls his jet on its back, accelerates, breaks through the sound barrier, rises rapidly to a dizzying height, only to swoop down almost to sea level in a breathtaking dive. He loops back next to the Airbus and asks, "Well, how was that?"
The Airbus pilot answers: "Very impressive, but now have a look here!"
The jet pilot watches the Airbus, but nothing happens. It continues to fly stubbornly straight, with the same speed. After five minutes, the Airbus pilot radioed, "Well, what are you saying now?"
The jet pilot asks confused: "What did you do?" The other laughs and says, "I got up, stretched my legs, went to the bathroom, got a cup of coffee and a cake.
The moral of the story is:
When you are young, speed and adrenaline seems to be great. But as you get older and wiser, comfort and peace are not to be despised either.
This is called S.O.S.: Slower, Older, Smarter.
