Whats the big problem with Postecoglu?

His teams play decent football, and he has won trophies at every club he has managed at.

You could make a case for him being defensively naive, but has he ever had the defensive talent he will inherit with us?

He finished 17th last season. If not for a woeful 3 promoted teams, he’d have taken them down

I think it's the 22 PL games he lost last season (for reference, we only lost 18 in our first season after promotion) and his pigheadedness in refusing to change his style despite it clearly causing injuries and not getting results. These are understandably causing concern.

But let's see how he gets on. Sometimes certain managers just suit certain clubs and who knows, he might turn out to be just what we need to go up another level.

Why would Marinakis, a born winner, bring in someone who lost 22 games in the Prem?

We need to stand back and trust his judgment. He will have evaluated the risk. Think the shortness of the contract speaks volumes and our preferred choice isn’t available until then

That is certainly interesting.

The relationship between his high insensity attack and injuries extends beyond his spell at Tottenham; Celtic suffered the same problems, although it did not resonate at the time.

losing 22 games is a lot, but the season prior to that he only lost 12 and finished 5th.

It would be concerning if he comes in and adopts the high defensive line with the players we have; he could not make that work at Tottenham even with Van Der Ven and Romero, who are pretty quick players

Exactly

Ange hush press worked well when Van der Ven and Romero were in the team. 11 games all season. They did play in Europa cup together in qtrs, semi and final. The problem was he still played high defensive line when other less adapt players were playing as CB’s. Spence is not a CB nor is Gray, but they were forced to put round pegs in square holes and we know what happens then.

Milko and Murillo are not suited to high line.

Need a different style of press.

Who is the preferred choice?

I wasn't very impressed when they appointed Nuno but he soon won me over. I doubt this guy will. I'm certainly not happy clapping today chaps.

First glance they look better for ange on the wins

Until you see how many games Ange loses
And that's with Tottenham. Nuno is predominantly with Wolves & Forest.

It's disingenuous to just do a straight comparison. Have they overachieved or underachieved in what those clubs may expect?

Ange Postecoglou

Wins: 31 × 3 = 93 points

Draws: 11 × 1 = 11 points

Total points = 93 + 11 = 104 points

Games: 76

Average points per game = 104 ÷ 76

👉 104 ÷ 76 = 1.368 PPG

---

Nuno Espírito Santo

Wins: 72 × 3 = 216 points

Draws: 45 × 1 = 45 points

Total points = 216 + 45 = 261 points

Games: 184

Average points per game = 261 ÷ 184

👉 261 ÷ 184 = 1.418 PPG

✅ Final Comparison:

Postecoglou: 1.37 PPG

Nuno: 1.42 PPG

So despite Postecoglou having a slightly higher win percentage, Nuno actually edges him on points per game because he drew more matches instead of losing them.
