Nuisance phone calls

Me and the Mrs wa son about this the other day how nobody calls us anymore lol we don't go out etc but we need the landline with the kids being so young for emergencies as we only use pay as you go mobiles so best to be sure with a landline we feel otherwise i would pizz it off oh and the internet connection

The best thing to do with a nuisance phone call is to say 'Oh hang on, you need my wife/husband, I'll just go and get her/him'. Put the phone down and leave it for about 15 minutes. That used to work for me.

 
If you've got one, give the phone to your 2 year old son/daughter/grandchild etc. That works.

the nuisance call blocker phones like the 8500 you also need to subscribe to Caller Display Service. Don't think it costs much but you will need it.
 
The Virgin Media guy who came here recently said in a generation of the age now of the elderly landlines will be obsolete (next 20 years or so) as there is no real need for them now. They won't be needed for connection with broadband, etc. They will go to the great museum along with public phone boxes, video players and so on

The guy at Virgin would say that given the monopoly of landlines is owned by BT
