NUFC v Spurs

Lascelles stood off for the 1st and was static to allow Kane to waltz past to cross for the 3rd, he was absolutely shit.

Lascelles gets stick because he's supposed to be captain. It's his job to organise the back line and scream at them if they're out of position. He can't, because he's got no fucking clue what he's supposed to do himself. He couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery and is an absolute liability.

The defence as a whole are extremely weak, playing a winger at left back is just insane. Ritchie offers nothing defensively, frequently caught out of position. His delivery is awful, can't even clear the first man most of the time.

He clearly didn't stand off for the first one as he was moving forward trying to reduce the angles - Darlow's positioning can also be questioned for standing directly behind Lascelles

For the 3rd one Clark over commits leaving a hole for Kane to run through with most of them chasing back facing their own goal

I agree that Lascelles isn't good enough to organise the back four but he didn't make himself captain

3 or 4 people jointly responsible for the first - 4 or 5 of them jointly responsible for the third

Clark probably more deserving of being singled out for individual mistakes than any of the other 3

He clearly didn't close down or Ndombele wouldn't have got his shot off, instead was given ample time and space. Yes, Darlow's positioning was bloody useless.

If he's not good enough to be captain they why keep him as one? He's not even good enough to marshall the back four, doesn't shout, doesn't close down, doesn't read the game, doesn't do the basics that every 9 year old is taught up and down the country.

A very poor team weak all over especially defensively.

This from a Spurs forum, they can see it all too clearly:

I reckon Bruce got his tactics all wrong. If he bothered to look at some of the Spurs games when we struggled to score, it was we were quickly pressed and closed down as soon as a player received the the ball.
Newcastle gave us yards of room and plenty of time to think. After their opening flurry and early goal, they changed to a more defensive style. We managed to take advantage but probably missed a chance to improve our GD.

The first goal is where it started to go wrong Mc (obviously)

We had been having some success with a high press but then a long ball down our right created a huge gap between our defence and midfield

Our backline did reasonably well to get back into position but our midfield just didn't come back with their runners

Then Manquillo played Kane onside for the second and the wheels came off

Watching live, it looked like they were bypassing our midfield at will.
Looking at the replays confirms it for me, not saying our defence is adequate mind but they are being exposed every game and that's down to the manager.
