Now the dust has settled.

What a depressing and unwelcoming place Grimsby is, decaying town and stadium, been there loads of time's and it really is back to the 80's, what struck me most about our massive neighbours was that there was only 5392 home fans, i know they like a good boycott but come on.

Getting tired of the billy big balls stuff about attendance. What comes around and all that. If, heaven forbid, we suffer another relegation you can bet your life that tickets for Lincoln games will be much easier to buy.
On Grimsby, the place. I always notice that the road past Blunder park to Cleethorpes has so many shuttered shops. The "genltemans club" by the traffic lights never seems to have any though!

We do need to remember where we have come from sometimes- our current following is almost once-in-a-lifetime and I hope it continues.

Just one comment on the attendance- 7201 does mean less than 5,400 home fans but would also mean 2,000 empty seats yesterday in the home ends. My eyesight is not as good as it was but were there 2,000 empty seats around Blunders Park yesterday?

Don't know how they arrived at the attendance but not sure it reflected how many were in the ground.

never understand the contempt for Grimsby... just because its close? Its a decent small football club just like our selves in a town that has suffered worse economic decline than Lincoln purely as its fishing industry has been gradually decimated.
It's called local football rivalry, very much part of British football tradition, and goes on the length and breath of the country and is a wonderful passionate part of our game as long as it doesn't get silly. Prefer the sledging to centre around the football side of things but it's all tongue in cheek apart from the nutters. Our rivalry is quite mild compared to some, went out with some Pompey fans recently and they were more concerned about about "Scummers" losing than pompey winning.

This is getting tedious, both the obsession with Grimsby and attendances. It wasn’t long ago we were taking 600 there. And Grimsby is a shithole? More a reflection of the state of this country as a whole rather than the poor fuckers that are stuck there.
and how often do they remind us of that!

The Cowley thread on the fishy is hilarious though. Those cheating brothers with all the South African cash. Just remember Jolley has been to Grimsby hospital and now a pillar in the community.

I actually think Jolley will do well at Grimsby and steady the ship. But come on the reason we hold the Cowleys on a podium speaks for itself.

I don't understand why we can't celebrate our attendances or our encouraging start to the season.

We can, we do, and we absolutely should.

However, in my view (and as has been said or alluded to on these posts), bashing Grimsby is a bit rich given they maintained far far better attendances than we did in the Conference, and had 5000+ turn out as a bottom half L2 side. Respect for that, especially as we didn’t get those numbers for Boxing Day matches against them not so long ago.

We’re riding the crest of a wave at the moment, which is absolutely fantastic of course, but personally I think we shouldn’t forget too quickly where we’ve come from, and as such bin off perfectly respectable attendances from other decent lower league clubs.

I think the trick is to celebrate our good fortune, good results and good attendances whilst avoiding being too patronising over other clubs for how they are doing. Given the tribal nature of football though, it is tricky...

As I said on another thread, we have a Uriah Heep mentality. Who is to say our attendances will fall off a cliff? Maybe this is a new era that we should all enjoy and embrace without caveats? Don't forget our new fans who don't remember those perennial dark days, doffing our caps to all and sundry.

Yes, of course I respect that their crowds have been better, but they aren't now. That's the point.

Goes with your age but I “hate” Grimsby.

For me, they’re my main rivals. I’ve had my old man impose a 3 match ban for fighting at their place in the eighties when I was a young pup (didn’t have a choice I might add). We’re allowed to have rivals.

Disagree with the billy big bollocks about attendances. Again, probably goes with age.

In a different note, been sat in a South London beer garden for his afternoon and the red arrows flew fight over us - luvverly!

Personally I don't care a monkeys who Grimsby are or what they do, or what Grimsby as a town is, we should focus on Lincoln and its football Club, and enjoy the current success, end of ! UTI.[/QUOT Do you not have any relationship bald then?

Cant compare attendances during the conference years, their non league sabbatical was a very different one to ours. They had 6 yrs challenging for promotion, we had 5 yrs looking over ours shoulders at relegation followed by one promotion year in which our average attendance eclipsed theirs. Success on the field = bigger attendance, weve been starved of it for years barring the last two. Their gates would have been significantly lower if the roles had been reversed.
