Notts Cricket Thread

18 wickets day 2, not a single wicket day 3....... that’s going to be an interesting wicket report at the end.

Looks as though the West Indies have improved a bit, and Australia has just defeated Sri Lanka by an innings. Might be an interesting series after all in your summer.
Main thing though is that if Notts are able to sign up Cummins they'll be on a winner. He took 10 wickets in this match including 6 for 23 in the second innings. And he can bat as well.

See Dan Christian and Harry Gurney played for Melbourne Renegades in their T20 win over Sydney Thunder. Both seem to have bowled pretty well.

Just looked at the cricket to see if England are batting yet, and we've already lost by ten wickets.
I’ve watched a fair bit of these two Tests, and to be honest, the Windies have played beautifully, totally exposed England’s lack of specialist batsman.
If they can keep it together, this maybe the makings of a decent Windies team, long overdue and most welcome.

Special mention to the 22 year old Bowler Alzarri Joseph who’s mum died yesterday morning. Batted, bowled and took a good catch. A true professional.

Theoretically we have one of the best batting lineups. When did we last have a spinner who can bat as well as Moeen, a fast bowler who bats as well as Stokes, and a wicketkeeper who bats as well as Bairstow, plus a world class player in Joe Root. We seem to have two different sets of players though, the ones that do well at home, and those that can't play abroad. The shortage of proper batsmen though, as you say, means that we are playing three wicketkeepers in Bairstow , Buttler and Foakes. Can't help but think that teams are more interested in the money than arriving in proper time and making proper preparations for test matches. Nice to see your home team win, but I guess most fans would like to see some decent games in the process.

I think it’s the lack of specialist Test Batsmen that is the issue.
This England team does have some fine players, but they have proven time again that they don’t have the ability to dig in when it’s needed.

Again though, I think to criticize England this time is to do a disservice to the Windies, they have been magnificent. I’m not sure any team would have beaten them in the last two games.

It’s ironic that Jason Holder has been banned for the next test because of the slow over rate. The Windies were 2 overs short of the requirement.
I’m sure that if they hadn’t had to successfully review nearly every LBW appeal, and hadn’t taken 20 wickets in 103 overs, they would have been well within the target.

I still reckon it will be 3-0 though.

You are quite right too, disrespectful to not prepare properly for this series. That’s come back to bite England on the arse again!!

I fear Ben Duckett &/or Joe Clarke could be promoted to the full England test squad this Summer given the current shambles that is the England early order.
The penalties of bringing in promising young talent - just hope what looks like a promising TB season doesn’t get derailed before it even gets under way.

Duckett averaged 25 in division 2 for Northants last season. Joe Clarke averaged 34 in division 1. I would have thought they are both a long way off the England team. You could still be right though as an England career now seems to be planned through the Lions etc. rather than simply playing the in-form players.

Melbourne Renegades have won the Aussie Big Bash. I know most people on here aren't interested in T20, but congratulations to Dan Christian and Harry Gurney. The Renegades only made 145 for 5, and the Stars were 93-0 after 12.5 overs , but only managed another 39 runs in the last 7 overs.

LK any news of our overseas player for the Championship/50 overs or other incomings? Do you think Samit will be less of a regular. Cant see a place for him in the side on a rular basis now that Carter is coming through-maybe 20/20 and one dayers a bit more

Heard nothing on the overseas players. Dan Christian is booked for the T20, but I don't see the point in bringing Sodhi back, so we need a T20 player plus one (or several!) Championship players.

Samit had a poor year last year. As you say I would guess he will get in the one day squad. We really only have two spinners, and I hope we see more of Carter, but there is plenty of competition for batting and all-rounders now.

Just to let you know that Pattinson is playing tomorrow for Victoria v NSW, his first game after resuming from injury. Should be interesting.

And Oz might be on the way up, they're playing a 5 game OD series against India, at the moment 2 games each, the decider in Delhi on Wednesday. This series inc ludes the first game we've won since 2017, try not to laugh.
And Smith and Warner are not playing yet but due very shortly.

Maybe the England games will be worth watching after all.

Oz have managed to beat India 3 - 2 in the 5 match OD series in India, the World Cup in the UK might be worth watching this summer. Also Pattinson just took 5 for 28 to propel Victoria to victory against NSW. Would be good to see him playing for Notts again.

Gentle hints from club re Pattinson?
They seem to be going out of their way to congratulate him on his exploits in the Sheffield Shield.
And Mick Newell is now suggesting that a red ball overseas player is the priority ( over another white ball signing - no Ish Sodhi this year? ).

Now Harry Gurney has followed Alex Hales on to a white ball only contract at Notts. With the introduction of "the hundred", are we heading next year towards more cricketers choosing a one day contract only ? With the Indian League, Big Bash, Pakistan and even middle-east tournaments to choose from, we are more likely to get cricketers who specialise in one form of cricket or the other.
