Notts County Vs Chesterfield

I realise no one cares but genuinely is that now the rivalry? The sheep haven’t beaten us in 10 years and there’s no games incoming even if they fluke promotion we have individual players worth more double than their whole club, I know things can change but if they get promoted they are fucked and although this season has been shit we made a European semi final. Unless their managers surname is Clough they haven’t won at the city ground since the 1950s, as a rivalry it seems kind of dead and I don’t see it coming back for many years, wolves have tried to force a rivalry (not helped by our marketing team) cry still palace probably got an email about a rivalry but would have ignored it, spurs there’s the MGW stuff but they are also shit and care more about Arsenal and Chelsea, fester are even worse than the sheep, blunts have their shit about the miners but that’s bollocks and they are meant to be steel workers who fucked the miners more than anyone, who are our rivals?

I care Woanz. As a native of Notts living in exile over here on the bracing east coast I care about any Nottinghamshire team in any sport.

When I was growing up & we came back to visit family my Dad & I would go & watch whoever was at home, Forest, Notts or Mansfield & even on occasions Derby I actually saw Stanley Matthews play at Derby I think it was for Stoke.

I'm sure back in the day if there were any midweek games,, Mansfield would play Mondays, Forest on Tuesday or Wednesday & Notts on Thursday at least that's as I remember it so sometimes we might to go three games in a week,

I remember going to Mansfields first game under their "new" floodlights I think it was against Cardiff & they won 2-1 I think its all such a long time ago.

God what I'd give to relive those days with my dad now I'm old

Heart and head. Heart says they are Nottingham, not likely to ever be a challenge so good luck to them and happy to see them do well. Nice ground, history etc and I know a lot of people who follow them.

But......it's a lot of their fans that make me want to see them lose. They are deluded. They take the piss out of Forest as if they are some kind of equal........ha you're shit as you didn't qualify for the CL. Hang on what fucking league are you in? Ah this player, that player, he's shit! Again hang on, who the fuck have you got? Didn't you drop out of the entire league recently?

They're like little kids who can't see reality. I have sat in the car, me and my son with 3 Notts lads and they were taking the piss, we are better etc and I remember him looking at me as if to say WTF? are these people actually ill?

Plus they hate us. I went once a couple of years back on free tickets from a mate. Losing at HT all they were interested in was our score and cheering that we were losing away somewhere. They want us to fail.

It feels like a contrived rivalry in that I don't think many Forest give a fuck about them, but I feel obliged to reciprocate.

So I hope they fucking lose.

Jesus, SR, How old are you?

I know some of us are knocking on a bit, but Matthews played his last game for Stoke in 1947 - it must have been a Derby v Blackpool game you went to.

Do you still rely on Birthdays for calulating your age or do you use Carbon Dating?

I could not resist checking.

The last time Stoke played at Derby in the Matthews era was in 1947, he did play for Blackpool at Derby in 1953, surely it was that game?

Ah Ha Well I'm not quite that old stopped counting birthdays years ago mate it just depresses me more. Matthews played his last game for stoke in 1965 as a 50 year old apparently, Ultimately it might be my memory playing tricks on me but we definitely went to a derby v stoke game & my dad was talking endlessly about Matthews it would have been prior to 1965, the one thing I do remember clearly is that whichever stand we were in & wasn't behind the goal was incredibly steep a much steeper than Forest or Notts & much steeper than modern grounds to me as a kid it was almost scary. It's a pity I haven't still got all my programmes for that era I gave my collection to my mate when having a clear out.

If the scores stay the same way in the next 10
mins, would be awesome to see Notts beat Neville in the final

I can remember my dad taking me to Stoke on the train to see Stanley Matthews play. As you say his last game was 1965, but I've no idea when we went. Also remember him taking me to Highbury to see Arsenal v Man Utd in the George Best era (no tickets required - pay on the gate!).
