not much excitement !

Vital Champions League
There doesn't seem to be much excitement among Gills fans for the Spurs game.

Is everyone a bit down because we are not ripping up the division?

League one seems very even this season as it was last year, I'd reckon that as long as we are in touching distance of the top at Xmas, we have as good a chance as any team.

It does all seem a bit doom and gloom at the moment.

Agree absolutely.

I am very excited about the Spurs game. Big event with JED looking forward to a great reception at his old club and 3000 Gills fans to complete the atmosphere.
Mist of us go there expecting to get beaten so there is no pressure and we can just enjoy the evening and hope our boys do us proud.

...and our Australian fans can enjoy the game too. Plus any fans who have one of those dodgy Firestick things.
This on Twitter...
MEDIA: #Gills fans in Australia will be able to watch our @EFLCup game against Tottenham Hotspur on @beINSPORTS_AUS. https://t.co/QRJ7w1Os1p

So far Spurs v Gills has cost me 60+ and massively annoyed my wife.

I shall get excited when I finish work tomorrow and hop on the train.

Got a ticket alongside Spurs fans (my son got the single ticket we were allowed for being registered).
More worried than excited as, if a miracle happens and we score and/or win, I know I won't be able to stop myself launching into a massive celebration.

At least I get to go this time. Last time (1982) I was in intensive care following a road accident.

May be in intensive care AFTER this one if we win :)

we've sold 3000 tickets, with some also getting tickets in home ends.

It's been all over facebook people getting excited about this game. What more excitement do you want?

Looking forward to the game myself. It should be a good day out....will hopefully be getting on the beers from 5. Still got to work out a place to drink though.

I don't do, never have and never will do facebook alphabet king.

It is the spawn of the devil and has ruined so many lives.

I rely on old fashioned forums for my info.

I'm often accused of being negative because I like to tell it as it is, I will go to this game as every other expecting as to snatch the win. Maybe that's why I get so down after a defeat as it's such a disappointment, however, in this instance any result after a good and spirited performance would be bearable.

Well that's up to you, but when you're ignoring the most well used social media platform then you're likely to miss out on the majority of the 'excitement' that you're after i'd imagine.

"It is the spawn of the devil and has ruined so many lives" what an odd statement.

Shotshy - agree with you, sorry AK.

Horrible invention. Fuels pointless obsessions and human misery.

Get off the bl##dy thing and live your life. I'm not interested in the latest "exciting" news such as what someone has had for breakfast, FFS.

OK, I admit I'm a miserable old git.

If you think you are living your life any more by posting on a gills message board than on the gills facebook group then you're simply a pretentious fool.

They are basically the same thing in principle - they are both online forums bringing communities together allowing them to discuss the gills.

Gills discussions aside, many people have had their lives wrecked by this medium.

That, my friend is an unfortunate bi-product of instant communication.

Like Gills1958, I use technology to enhance my life, not be governed by it.

As a point of interest, how many posters on here would say that they are obsessed with facebook and how many times a day do they check it?

Agree re the message board to be fair AK. Guilty. Just a small part of my life though, not a 24/7 obsession.

Only an idiot would let a social media platform wreck their life. Sensible people restrict their exposure on it to family and friends they trust. Then you don't get inundated with crap posts but have a useful medium with which to keep in contact and share information with said family and friends. Useful for sharing things with people a long way away/overseas.

"I use technology to enhance my life, not be governed by it" - I think what you're doing is looking at how a minority use facbook (i.e. become obsessed with it etc.) and then applying it to the whole of facebook. Therefore facebook must be completely bad. It's as ridiculous as suggesting knives are a terrible invention because they can be/are also used by some to ruin lives.

Maybe if you think that you wouldn't be able to resist yourself becoming addicted and goverend by it then it's right that you don't use it. But to suggest that's how everybody that uses it is doing then your simply missing the point of it.

Many/most are perfectly capable of using it to enhance their lives though, and do so every day.

I personally use it for keeping in contact with many people I usually wouldn't, and sharing pictures of my family with other family in Ireland, letting them know what i'm doing and visa versa. It definitely enhances my life and given the billions of people who also use it i'd imagine that they would say it enhances theirs too.

"Just a small part of my life though, not a 24/7 obsession"

I think 99% of the user base of Facebook would suggest that's true of their use of facebook to be honest, so I don't see how you're any different from them really.

Really excited by the Spurs game.My brothers and their families are Spurs fans.Bit worried about the outcome. But as long as we play well and give a good account of ourselves. But win and they will never live that down. The pressure is on them our players can like our fans enjoy the adventure. Meeting up with one of my brothers before the game.

On Facebook and twitter never used it myself. So I am on Shotshy side.Although I do understand the view if use correctly it can connect people. But there are massive problems created by this media platform. It needs greater regulation maybe ban on under 18 year old users would help not sure it would be achievable though.

AK "I think 99% of the user base of Facebook would suggest that's true of their use of Facebook to be honest, so I don't see how you're any different from them really". Unfortunately, as a teacher of the older teenage group I can honestly say that very many of them are obsessed with Facebook and the other media. Many are unable to concentrate through being desperate to find out the latest gossip about puerile matters (and some important). Before such info was so immediately accessible it was less of a problem. It is a serious problem throughout schools and very hard for parents to control. When I was their age there was just the one telly as a distraction and Dad controlled it!

I do of course accept that it can be used for good things as per Detritus' post.
