Mentioned on the Boss thread but worth its own thread
Whether you think you're not interested or not check it out. This genre is in my dna - without even realising it at first I was in the scene ( a little ) as I used to go to Blackpool Mecca and Preston Top Rank in the early 70s when I lived in Southport.
Every now and again I hear a track that I haven't heard since then and the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
What is Northern Soul? I cant tell you clearly but I know it when I hear it. Even Frankie Valli, Tom Jones and Lulu have inadvertently released tracks but mostly is on very obscure Southern state labels by artists who came and went in the night.
There's tons of shit compilations available but some great ones too with CD case notes written by passionate fans. If you want to dip a toe I heartily recommend That Driving Beat on Backbeat Records (about £3.99 from Amazon so a bargain). I defy anybody to listen to the first 10 tracks and not want to do a backflip.

You'll recognise track 6 as it was sampled by Fatboy Slim
Course if you really get the bug you can buy an original copy of (I think 2 exist in the world) of Frankie Wilson's 'Do I Love You?' for about £15,000
Also still on BBC iplayer catch up is a doc on the massive current Northern Soul scene in Japan.
Keep the Faith and pass the talcum powder!
