UKIP Councillor David Silvester In Bizarre Homophobic Rant Blaming Gay Marriage For Bad Weather

The Huffington Post UK | By Charlotte Meredith Posted: 18/01/2014 11:31 GMT | Updated: 18/01/2014 12:44 GMT

The UKIP Councillor for Henley on Thames has written a very odd homophobic letter to a local newspaper.

David Silvester, who resigned from the Tories over David Cameron’s same-sex marriage policy, has said gay marriage is to blame for Britain's recent spell of bad weather in a letter to The Henley Standard.

"Since the passage of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act, the nation has been beset by serious storms and floods," he claims.

"One recent one caused the worst flooding for 60 years. The Christmas floods were the worst for 127 years," he notes.

Ominously, he adds: "Is this just global warming or is there something more serious at work?"

Expanding on this rather doom-laden suggestion, he launches into an eyebrow-raising tirade, quoting The Bible, and explaining that acts like gay marriage are to blame for storms, disease, pestilence and war.

"The scriptures make it abundantly clear that a Christian nation that abandons its faith and acts contrary to the Gospel (and in naked breach of a coronation oath) will be beset by natural disasters."

He does say he warned the Prime Minister about the gays and their apparent secret agenda to destroy humanity, adding "I wrote to David Cameron in April 2012 to warn him that disasters would accompany the passage of his same sex marriage Bill.

"But he went ahead despite a 600,000-signature petition by concerned Christians and more than half of his own parliamentary party saying that he should not do so.

"Now, even as Cameron sheds crocodile tears on behalf of destitute flooded home owners, playing at advocate against the very local councils he has made cash-strapped, it is his fault that large swathes of the nation have been afflicted by storms and floods.

"He has arrogantly acted against the Gospel that once made Britain 'great' and the lesson surely to be learned is that no man or men, however powerful, can mess with Almighty God with impunity and get away with it for everything a nation does is weighed on the scaled of divine approval or disapproval."

Wow.

Unfortunately for the councillor, more bad weather is predicted – so it seems gay marriage is going nowhere fast.

The Henley Standard and Ukip have been contacted for comment.

Mmmmmm. As a born again believer........ I ALWAYS say that in any association, Golf club, cricket club, football club, team, church, mosque, whatever, there are good members and also (much the pity) bad ones sometimes too. I would say, knowing real believers at close quarters, "don't throw the baby out with the bath water!" Firstly we aren't back in Old Testament days, God doesn't 'smite the wicked' since Jesus came to make our peace with Him. If people don't understand the truth of the Bible, then they should try because it makes perfect sense to BILLIONS of people in the world (they can't all be wrong).

I understand that some people have bad experiences of all members of various associations. Unfortunately, Christianity gets a bad name because of the actions of the improper. I belong to a church that has done amazing things for Drug Addicts Alcoholics, sick people etc and I see Christianity working as it should every day.

In this UKIP case, I would want to see all the remarks and in what context and even then would like them explained by those who made them because for me, they don't make too much sense.

Welsh, sorry mate, couldn't care tuppence for your church but this clown is a member of a political party that is looking for people's vote, not a church that self-elects its members.

Which is why it's leader is booting him out....it's worth taking the time and trouble to understand that these where his religious personal views....

I'm not a believer, but your stance is perfectly sensible.

this has more to with religion than politics I'm afraid, and I'm also afraid of people that cannot separate their religious beliefs from their political ones.

its rubbish and makes perfect sense at the same time

God is supposed to be all powerful and the maker of laws so a perceived 'infringement' like Gay Marriage is bound to incur His wrath.

The acid test would be to allow bestial marriages and then see what the weather did

Already occurred on Jerry Springer. I think that was just before Hurricane Katriona.
