Mauricio Pochettino: I've got no idea when injured Tottenham star Danny Rose will return

Spurs news: Danny Rose return doesn't appear to be soon

The Tottenham left back has been sidelined since January with a knee injury.

And worryingly boss Pochettino has compared his situation to that of Erik Lamela who has been out of action since last October with a hip problem.

When asked if he has pencilled in a return date, the Argentine said: “No, it’s like the case of Lamela. I’m a coach and not a doctor. They know better than me.

"We cannot say in one week or two weeks. We are assessing them every day, still we need to wait and cannot give a date to return to the group and start training.

“Of course I suffer because like with Lamela you always want different players. You always want them fit and healthy and ready to compete to be available for selection.

"After the long term it is so difficult for him. All players love to play football and be healthy. He is suffering a lot. It is eight, nine months, we want to help him and push him to be motivated as quickly as possible.”

But Spurs are in good spirits following a week that saw them thrash Everton 3-0 away and beat Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in the Champions League at Wembley.

Spurs news: Mauricio Pochettino's side are in good form

Yet Pochettino is far from satisfied.

“I think in football you can never stop,” he said. “You find different ways to develop and help the team – individual and collective.

“Every season at the start we are talking about improving and learning for different reasons. New players come, players that you have after two years or three seasons change their status and level and they need to improve.

“Sometimes a player, for different reasons, change, something changes in their mind. Many things happen.

“Every season is a completely different world. You need to assess everything. The players change because they are one year older, more experienced, maybe they achieve or have different environment, contract, everything, different girlfriends, ok.

"It is important for us to check everything. That is why we are talking about improving and learning.”

It would be funny if Levy gave Davies a big pay rise based in improved performance and consistent injury free availability. Then told Rose to prove his worth if he wants a rise.

It seems Rose has missed ALOT of time due to injury. I recall he was out for a long period due to a lisfranc fracture a couple seasons ago.

Do we know what this current knee injury actually is?

Even more bizarre to be trying to demand a pay rise if you don't know when you'll play again

This.

We should be cutting his pay to zero.

He's been playing the injury game all his career at Spurs, he'll magically get himself fit for the January window, bin the fucker now and backdate it as well, can't remember the last time he earned his pay packet by actually playing a game.

bit harsh - whilst I'm 100% against his giving such a stupid interview when he did and saying he knows "what he's worth and he will get it" whilst he's injured, he has been one of our most consistent performers last 2-3 seasons. I don't think he's playing a "game" with his injury, he's just had a lot of down time whilst recovering and has foolishly spent that speaking to his agent and/or other people who have got him singing from the wrong hymn sheet.

I don't buy into the fact he's injured that badly, I bet we don't see him play for us again because he's 'injured' and we sell him in January and within a couple of weeks he's playing for his new team.

After how Davies has developed I won't be losing any sleep when he goes, so long as he's replaced well.

We could easily get £60m+ for Rose and get in Sessegnon for half of that and still have £30m+ to improve the squad further. It wouldn't be as bad a disaster as it seemed last month.

It's an ongoing issue that won't settle down; I was told that it was both a recurring tear/shredding meniscus issue and an acl issue - hence why it's simply taking so long to settle down.

I'm hoping we have the balls to give Jadon Brown a chance - physically he's probably not quite ready, but he's quick, he's got a brain and could be anything.

Agreed, he is a good player no denying that but i actually think Davies has more guile.

Then we should sell while his stock is high. He's relatively young and English, we'll get a premium and we can try and get a quality left back from abroad for the same money.

We don't have to worry about our home-grown quotient, so if an English player is kicking up a stink, get rid. If he 'knows his value' then he knows he's horrendously over-valued by virtue of his passport.

Nice little run out for him last night and looked alert and enthusiastic. He got a decent reception although admitted he didn't expect it. He said it's all been forgotten and he wants to win things with Spurs.

I hope he gets back to where he was for us .

He's done it again though - put the timber back on, just as I said he would and it will take some losing too now.

But, I'm being churlish, his return can only strengthen us.

His final line about express his thoughts differently in future still seemed like he's not backing down on his stance. Still one foot out the door but as long as he plays his heart out til he gets his transfer so be it.
