Nick's Vin du Jour

Being a little dramatic aren't we? I put your name there because I thought you were doing a great job, much like your other positive contributions.

Yup, that's me, over state my case. But its my comedic way of making a point. It falls short of outright Lampardism unless I'm really pissed off like rule 7.

Any Christmas recommendations Nick?

Good question , I am waiting to try an M&S Sauvignon Blanc on offer at 7 quid but they never have any. I read the other day Canada produces a fair old quantity of wine. Also that its possibly under rated. Pinot Noir being a popular grape and one of my favourite reds.

Anything west of Saskatchewan has some good wines. Ontario is hit and miss with the Ice Wine being a famous export from the Niagara region. Some good whites (which I do not drink) with the very occasional pinot noir being drinkable.

Personal favourite is Little Engine in the Okanagan. It's our house wine on our annual guys ski trip. :sick1:

Tonight's offering is a South Australian Sauvignon Blanc called Hidden Sea. Nice bottle with a Whale on it which was my wife's motivation for buying it !!
Asda on offer at 7 quid. The maker is committed to removing plastic from the oceans.
Take some air down with it and the flavours come flooding in waves. Sorry for the pun but its true. Very drinkable.
I'm sorry for the Sauv heavy reports but its what we like. I'm having the second glass with some Brie and crackers.

A bottle of Diablo. 666 the devil wine. Not many mature bottles around which is annoying. 13.5 %.

The 2020 year isn't great but still smooth.

Yup, wine does change from year to year. Which keeps the search interesting I guess. Trouble is you can't buy or try everything which is why sharing experiences is helpful. I want to get into some reds a bit more. Probably concentrate on finding a decent Pinot Noir first. I'm not going to drink as much red as white currently due to the wife being anti red after she overdid it and suffered on one occasion !!

Oregon.

I tried an M&S Reisling last night and was quite happy with it. Might be too sharp and lemony for some but it mellowed with food, in this case creamy smoked haddock with cheesy mash and peas. I tried it as an alternative to Sauvignon Blanc as recommended by a wine expert a few weeks ago.

My days as a Wine semi specialist with Safeway brings back memories of Brown Bros and Taylors ports. A vintage would be featured on offer in a wooden box and it would fly off the shelves seemingly irrespective of price. This year Sainsburys and getting good reviews for their Taste the Difference Special Reserve Port from Portugal. It has descriptions of rich and plummy with no after twang and smooth. I'm almost tempted myself !! It's only 9 quid.

Sorry mate no. I find it too Sherry like which I don't like. Never got on with it. As a rule of thumb you will get what you pay for. If it's a good vintage they will know and charge accordingly !!

Very true with Port.

If the producer is tied down by a Supermarket at a price and the Port turns out extra special for a variety of reasons, I guess there could be some examples that are too good for the price .
