Brexit dividend my arse! Boris' bus slogan was proved to be a joke and false information but Mrs May has promised farmers, education and the NHS about three times that amount.

If anyone believes this tosh they really should open their eyes. The trouble is that the tabloids will try to persuade their readers that this has something to do with brexit when brexit will actually end up costing hugely.

Breaking campaign promises is hardly a new thing - it’s amazing to see people wanting to nullify the referendum result based on this. Christ, every election over the last 50 years would be voided in that case.

The NHS needs a huge, huge amount of money, and not just on a meagre pay rise for the workers.

As a country we cant afford the NHS, it was designed for a different generation and a very different time. When it was founded none of the staff were well paid, it was a vocation but now the situation has changed and everyone needs / wants a decent salary and pension.
.
No one in the world has the same because it is so expensive

If you want access to all advances in modern technology and medicine which is very expensive you will have to pay and it will be more than a 1p on tax.

Brexit or no Brexit the NHS needs a thorough overhaul. Entirely free at the point of use is no longer financially possible, some charges must now be made for appointments . Proof of identity and eligibility of access to the NHS to be shown at appointments both at hospitals and GP's. The means and method of purchasing all supplies of equipment including drugs must be made more efficient, even if it mean individual departments be given the right to make their own deals with suppliers, on smaller items.

In 2016 the UK's net contribution to the EU was £8.6 Billion.

If we no longer give the EU £8.6 Billion we can spend it elsewhere.

The question is how much of that £8.6 Billion can go to the NHS?

There are also tax rises on their way for higher earners, judging by Theresa May on Andrew Marr this morning.

Durham your statement that the NHS is too expensive is complete tosh and totally erroneous. The cost of treatment per patient is the lowest in the world. The (dis)UK is one of the richest countries in the world.
Its a political decision as to whether the NHS is fully funded or not.
The right want to make money from peoples suffering the left want to do something about it ( in general).
This isnt a Brexit benefit by any means its an increase in tax. If a government says they can afford to cut taxes theyre not working hard enough to make life better for its citizens.

Even if that figure's true, it's the net contribution of the UK treasury, and not of the UK economy, whose benefit from membership of the single market is many times over that, a lot of which returns to the treasury as tax paid back.

By nature, it's hard to quantify, but every serious estimate made so far, including by the government's own departments, has had Brexit tanking the economy, or at the very least costing a shitload of money, not saving it, and the figure on the side of the bus has been demonstrated to have been an outright lie.

Sure, they should put more money into the NHS, but they should be honest about where it's coming from. They'll have to put up taxes, and fair enough, but to claim it's coming from some kind of imaginary Brexit bonus is taking the piss in the most blatant, cynical way imaginable.

The worst thing is, though, not only do they know that they can get away with it, but it'll probably pick them up a few votes as well.

NHS staff are still not well paid

They've counted the Brexit bonus about three times already. Taxes will rise, the Govt will borrow again and will continue to throw money away as services are privatised and bosses make lots of money in the process whether it be Capita, Serco or Group4S

Since the inception of the NHS the share of National Income spent on it has risen every year except for two periods; the first during the Thatcher years and the second starting when the coalition came to power and continuing to date. So that's not about the total amount of money available it's about the priority that's given to the NHS compared to other priorities. The share of the national income spent on health services is higher in Germany, France and a number of other European countries. So please don't believe the right wing bullshit that we can't afford the NHS and that there is an argument for more private insurance involvement. It's a straightforward lie.

Brexit dividend, if there is ever one it will not be for years. The level of gullibility they expect from us is exacerbating.

1. Slash the foreign aid budget.
2. No medical/financial assistance for illegals or foreigners not paying in.
3. Celebrate that the clock is ticking down on our departure from the EU.
4. Laugh at/take the piss out of those who can't accept democracy.

The NHS budget last season was £124.7 billion. How much will a curb on health tourism save us?

Blimey, Mrs May comes out with facts, and some people still refuse to accept those facts! Some people will twist anything to prove their point! As PM, I'm sure she will have better knowledge of the "facts" than some posters on this board! :-)

Health tourism is a drop in the ocean but would be a start. So would stopping the frivolous use of A&E by idiots. This country needs a complete re-education, we have too many people sitting around taking and expecting to be kept. Too many people who think they are entitled to everything without giving anything. Somehow this needs to be changed. The burden on the country as a whole, not just the NHS, is different from 50 years ago because 50 years ago people had the right mindset regarding working for their living and only used the NHS when really needed.

We can easily afford the NHS. It's matter of priorities.

We still spend a lower proportion of our GDP than the Euro average. Our NHS is persistently regarded as the most efficient/best value for money in the world. Obviously it is not perfect. Getting rid of the ludicrous internal market would help. More spending on Social care would get the bed blockers moved on

Rather sad that the DM is setting the agenda. Slippery slope to getting rid of the NHS and ending up like the USA ( shockingly inefficient from my own personal experience).

It seems that some on here don't know how lucky we are.
