Next manager

The next Gills manager?

Anyone will do, as long as they know how to manage a mens football team.
I've had it up to here with all these wanna be Pep type coaches, the overindulged wimpy footballers and possession stats based football.

I still don't know what xg means and quite frankly I'm not fucking interested.

I want a physical, brutal Gills team that will kick, bite and if needs be scratch their way out of shitty League 2!

Pretty football can start once we get back into League 1.

I believe that it was Howard Wilkinson who advocated playing direct, moving the ball forward as quickly as possible.
His style did pay off, but too many foreign coaches were being employed offering possession based football, ball playing goalkeepers and loving the sideways and continual back pass to the keeper.
Could you imagine Tony Cascarino waiting for the ball to be released by his team mates?

Joe Dunne ? Managed at this level before and knows the club well.
I can't see him taking it long term but as a caretaker someone to get the right information to the next manager.Right now of course with this terrible run it is possible that the Galinson's have something already in the pipeline. But if the plan is to take a working manager then that can always go wrong. As can any approach for a out of work boss.
I would make sense to me if Joe Comper had already spoken to a few possibilities with a view to finding out what the demands were .After all Bonner for example might want to change a lot of the squad in January that can cost far more than changing management.

Personally I would have thought a new manager would be more likely to be able to insist on an expensive player turnover, maybe even as a condition of taking the job.

Bonner oversaw the summer influx so must expect to have to juggle what he has got.

If Bonner is to go, and given that we currently don’t have a DoF, now might be a good time to change the model, bring in a proven manager and give him complete control. Even just for the short term

The data will be there for him to dip into if he wants too but maybe someone experienced that would lean more on their own experience and instincts. Someone will the full remit in putting together a squad that has the character and the right blend needed to get us out of this shite division.

Whatever happens new manager or not see you all on the 14th December.

The January window is not the time to rebuild, the replacement of individuals is all we can hope for. Players under contract are as safe as can be, all they have to do is keep their heads down and be available for selection, they are fire proof. The club has to find the money to increase the size of the squad as I can't see anyone willing to sign any of our lot for money.

Not commenting on MB going or staying, but thinking about your post, this must be a difficult time for the Gallinsons.

Brad and Shannon might well have recently pondered over the structure at GFC but where do they now go for objective guidance ?

Thinking out loud, I`ve wondered whether it`s crossed their minds to speak with other American owners in the EFL. To my mind, Wrexham would be an ideal thought. Those guys have had to rely on a lot of insider help and guidance and the man who has overseen direction of travel there is a real mine of information. I speak of Shaun Harvey who has bags of experience in the English (and Welsh !) game at all levels. A few hours of confidential chat with someone like Harvey, would be a gold plated experience for "new" to the game America owners.

I feel for the Gallinsons, they really have rescued our Club and they deserve a better foundation to build upon. UTG.

The obvious question here is: how many of the current squad would be able to do that? If the answer is not enough, we're writing off another season and hoping yet again that the recruitment team can get it right in the summer.

Wrexham did it by spending huge amounts of money on wages.

Not sure how good that advice is, nor whether the G's would have the appetite for it.

Wondering if the answer could be to bring in a updated version of Lennie Lawrence who did a incredible job with Michael Flynn?
So a more hands on director of football. Not a glorified scout.
Weather he works with Bonner or more likely someone else is the next question?
