Newcastle v Liverpool Match Thread

Best player for us tonight by a country mile is Dummet ... keeping Saleh relatively quiet is no mean feat.

Richard Keynes is a ****...claims it was a pen and a red......free kick and red aye!
I dislike that argumentative thick **** immensely

Played well Dummet, Atsu his usual waste of a shirt, git that offside decision and we could've gone been 1 up, yet again lack of composure in the final third from Kenedy and Murphy, wrong decisions made. Next two games are must win 6 pointers at home. Let's hope Southamptons current form continues,Palace and WBA, Pards history could save us.

Same old story.

Within their abilities, on the whole, our lads worked hard and did well.

The sad fact is once again we come back to quality. They had 3 attacking players who each cost more than double our whole defence. They have one defender who cost 3 times what was paid our front 4.

There is one nagging question that I seek help with though. How can anyone describe Ashley as tight arsed? His bum must be as flabby as they come and I reckon his sphincter can pass a ton in one sitting.

We still haven't conceded more than 2 in a game this season when Lascelles plays. Not really a positive but I expected worse today.

Wonder how Rafa would have approached the game with Liverpool's squad at his disposal and how he would have tackled a side defending like us were? Probably never find out at our club though.

For both our sakes we need Arsenal to do Brighton tomorrow and Man Utd to do Palace on Monday. Squeaky bum time yet again.

While the result wasn't unexpected the reality is we are a result away from the Championship. Rather than buy quality players Ashley neglects the one big earner in his portfolio to pursue lame ducks like Debenhams, increasing his share holding to 29.7% just below the formal takeover threshold. I just don't understand the logic in it.

All the pressure's now on the Southampton game. Win that and it's a real boost with the side having nearly 3 weeks to then prepare for Huddersfield. Big month or so for the club, Rafa and particularly Ashley.

Ashley doesn't give a shit. We get relegated and he still trousers the loot before spending a fraction of it getting us promoted again.

Probably better than expected today but we need to play with the same intensity against the lesser sides.
The main source of concern is where are the goals going to come from. Perhaps try Roberts from the reserves or one of the others, at least on the bench. Nothing to lose really, we must find goals from somewhere. Pity we signed a crock in the transfer window.

What's the point of MOTD, the bias towards the 'big six' is pathetic, just got up and was unfortunate enough to turn on at the end of our game and they just spend 15 mins waxing lyrical about Liverpool and Oxlade-Chamberlain (who's still shit). Granted we hardly put up much of a contest, but was Gayles offside not worth a mention? We'd have been 1 up and the game could've been completely different. If it was the other way round you know they'd have spent 10 mins on that alone. As for Danny Murphy, one unbearable twat.

Re Danny Murphy... Did his missus or mother run off with a Geordie?
I have never seen him say anything complimentary or positive towards us

Murphy an average player and a less than average pundit. If he knows so much why isn't he managing a club. Answer like most pundits has not got a clue. They talk the talk but can't hack it. The game is littered with high profile ex-players who have failed as managers.
Of course according to the Managers mutual admiration society there are no bad Managers, they are just unlucky or have not had the ammunition.

Decent result to be fair when we haven't got one player on our books who would make their first team. That's how far we have fallen since Ashley took over.

Ashley doesn't give a shit. We get relegated and he still trousers the loot before spending a fraction of it getting us promoted again.

Precisely. It's all about economies of scale and minimising risk. To get into the Champions League you need to spend zillions. With NO guarantee. Therefore risk of substantial loss. To compete for cups and top 10 finish you need to spend millions. With NO guarantee. Therefore risk of substantial loss. Providing you have the right manager (take note West Brom) you can spend relatively little and possibly survive and cream the TV dosh. Otherwise, narrowly go down, pocket 2/3 of said parachute payment; "loan" the club's remaining 1/3 back to the club; outspend rivals; re-join gravy train. Small losses absorbed (with additional "loans" if need be). Furthermore, championship squads - be they in that division or in the premier league playing above their station (like NUFC) don't cost as much and again, mitigate risk if relegation comes.

This is what perplexes me why pundits are so confounded at Ashley spending more in the championship to get into the premier league than spend to keep in it. It's blindingly obvious. And the policy has served him well for over a decade without too many complaints. No sporting ambition and very little point in existing as a sporting entity at all. But who cares about that? Not Ashley - ground full every week so why should he, or, indeed, the premier league for that matter.
