Newcastle v Chelsea

Can’t believe Chelsea won’t break down Clarke, so far disciplined as ever at the back, meanwhile Mitrovic takes his tally to 3.

For 25 minutes in the second half we had 10% posession even against a decent team those stats are shocking.

We were set up for a defensive game and only came to life as an attacking force when we went behind. Too negative for me and we did not offer much in attack.
Looks like bottom place as expected in a couple of games time and cup exit would not be a shock.
We started badly last year and recovered to finish mid table as Rafa has reminded us but the signs are not promising.

Negative football doesn't bother Ashley,he will benefit from his managers tactics come the end of this season.

That's all that matters.

For the most part, players did what was asked of them. We haven't done well under this referee and maybe a spell of 11 minutes showed why. Booking for Shar, Fernandez and Ritchie, failure to book Luiz and a dubious penalty might raise debating points.

So, the pundits reckoned it was too negative? If Ashley had given Rafa's transfer budget every last penny generated by the club, we might have had enough quality to employ different tactics.

At the end of the day, those who went can't complain. They are the ones adding to Ashley's profit.

It was a penalty for me, we have fuck all to complain about, multi millionaire world class players took the points against organised poorer players, as said above, those utter mugs keep paying to watch that. Ashley’s still winning, the team aren’t.

To be fair PK, I can see why the ref gave it from his position. However, contact was with the ball first and the Chelsea lad went over after trying to play the ball again. As for Souness and the scissor thing, the left leg didn't appear to make contact and certainly did not wrap around.

Saw that old ref Dermot Gallagher say that the rules have been explained to all clubs and that even making contact with the ball first means nothing nowadays. maybe Schar didn't know. Even the Chelsea players looked surprised when the penalty was given.

Fair point NZ. However, law 12 is here:
http://www.thefa.com/football-rules.../football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct

There was no attempt to kick the player. He fell after making an attempt to kick the ball, then trod on the defender's leg. There was no kick, no attempt to trip, reaching the ball (without following through) shows that there was no lack of attention or consideration. It was a well timed challenge.

The fact that it was not a red card suggests that the referee considered it was not reckless or using excessive force. Those are the sort of situations, such as taking the ball but also taking the player out, where making contact with the ball means nothing.

Under the fat ***** ownership it's all pretty pointless anyway. A football club going nowhere. After laughing at the unwashed we'll be in the same division as them next season probably taking another 3-0 humping at home.

I don't see it next season, Vin. Today's exercise in goal difference preservation tells me that Rafa will plot his way to safety in his last season at the club.

However, I can see Ashley sitting on his pile of casino chips congratulating himself on not letting Rafa get one up on him, just before re-appointing Pardew and giving him £100m to spend on his way to relegation in 2019/20, whilst Rafa gets a 50% pay rise to take an Italian team to a Champions League win.

The quicker this European super league comes about the better. Let all the big clubs compete at a level we cannot and will not ever compete.
English players were at a premium in today's match, Chelsea started the game without any. Little wonder Southgate rarely ventures this far north.

At least we had a full contingent of England qualified players, with Murply as well as Sterry, Darlow and Longstaff on the bench.

No no no and no . Just because we don't compete doesn't mean we can't. We can, we have and we will again .
